SHERBURNE: Herbert L. Bigford, Sr., 87, of Bingham Collins Rd., passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the Norwich Rehab & Nursing Center. He was born on August 28, 1937, in Earlville, a son of the late Herbert W. and Winona (Cole) Bigford. A lifelong Earlville and Sherburne area resident, he received his education in local schools. On July 15, 1958, he married Clora M. Bachicha at the First Baptist Church, Earlville. She predeceased him following a union of over 62 years on December 10, 2020.
Herbert was employed by Burton W. Mattot, Inc., Sherburne as a snowmobile mechanic and later worked as a machine mechanic for Lily White (Chesebrough Ponds), before retiring from Sherwood Medical, Sherburne.
He was an excellent woodworker and craftsman, especially when it came to antique furniture reproduction. He also enjoyed tinkering with his tractor and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He loved spending time with his faithful companion and friend, his dog Skippy.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Charleen and Timothy Llewellyn of N. Norwich; a son, Peter Bigford of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Susan Bigford of Sherburne; grandchildren, Christopher and Kelly Bigford of Marlboro, Tyler Bigford of Sherburne, Chad Harvey and fiancée Devin O'Leary of Iron Station, NC, Matthew Harvey of Smyrna, Jessica and John Flores of N. Norwich, Brandon and Paige Bigford of Columbus, Jonathan and Jennifer Bigford of York, PA ; great grandchildren, Wyatt, Cadence, Annie, Poppy, Zachary, Sophia, Zander and Bryson; and a sister-in-law, Juliana Bigford of Hubbardsville. He was predeceased by a son, Herbert Bigford, Jr., a sister, Lois Bigford and a brother Charles Bigford.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family, with interment in the Earlville Cemetery.
