CANASTOTA-Mary E. Tornatore, 95, of Howard Street, passed away on Thursday evening, March 31, 2022, in Elderwood at Liverpool, where she had been a resident since January of this year.Born February 23, 1927 in Canastota, the daughter of Guerino “Germany” and Margaret Bertolero Fratini.Mary has lived in Canastota all her life, graduating from Canastota High School in 1945. She married Sam L. Tornatore on February 26, 1949. Mr. Tornatore died on April 25, 2006.As a young girl, Mary worked on the muck farms in the summer. As a teenager, she worked in eight stores in Canastota and in 1957, Mary was a waitress in the club house at Vernon Downs and retired in 1999. During the winter months, she worked at the White Elephant Restaurant and Three Rivers Inn. Mary also helped her brothers in Ma and Pa’s Restaurant.She was an avid bowler in various bowling leagues and enjoyed the Yankees and Syracuse football and basketball teams. Mary was a member of St. Agatha’s Church and the perpetual adoration chapel and the bereavement group. She enjoyed baking pies and Christmas cookies for family and friends, tending her flowers in the summer and enjoyed joining her friends after Mass on Saturday nights for dinner.She is survived by a son, Stephen Tornatore and daughter-in-law, Marjorie, of Sherrill and the joy of her life, her granddaughter Stephanie of New York, NY; one sister, Madeline Paul of Canandaigua; brothers, Richard and his wife Mary Fratini of Syracuse and Robert Fratini of Canastota; a brother-in-law, Sam DiGeorge; sisters-in-law, Deborah Tornatore of Canastota and Mary Ellen Smolenski of Mottville and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Lancore and Barbara DiGeorge and three brothers, Eugene, Francis and Nazzareno “Nazzie” Fratini.Funeral services will be held 10:30AM Friday, April 8, 2022 from St. Agatha’s Church, where the funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Christopher Ballard, pastor. Entombment will be made in the Assumption Mausoleum in St. Agatha’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Friday, from 9-10:30AM, prior to the funeral Mass. Contributions may be made to the St. Agatha’s Bereavement Committee or to the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service.
