Ransom Domes Obituary

ONEIDA - Ransom A. “Randy” Domes, 71, died suddenly in his sleep, Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at his home, from underlying medical issues. Born in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, on December 28, 1950, he was raised by Dudley and Joyce Williams from the age of four years. A resident of this area for the past forty-nine years, Randy was a graduate of C. W. Baker High School, Baldwinsville and Mohawk Valley Community College and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the United States Air Force. He married Christine Eckert in Syracuse on April 14, 1973.For over twenty years, Randy drove the transportation van for the City of Oneida and later for the former Birnie Bus Service. Due to his dedication to the needs of the elderly in providing transportation, he received the Bill Fariel Vocational Award from the Oneida Rotary Club in September of 2016.Randy was a communicant of St. Agatha’s Church, where he served as a lector and Eucharistic minister and provided music at all masses for the former St. Therese’s Church, Munnsville. He was a member of the American Legion, Oneida Post 169 and the National Rifle Association, enjoyed traveling to National Parks, anything to do with airplanes, photography and wood-working, and was involved with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, but his greatest enjoyment and love was his family.Surviving besides his wife, Christine, are his two daughters, Alyssa (Matthew) Durkee of Durhamville and Hilary Domes of New Hartford; his two sons, Ian (Mary) Domes of Bouckville and Eric (Katrina) Domes of Front Royal, Viginia; five grandchildren, William (Theresa) Domes, Ivy (Aaron Herter) Domes, Lily Domes, Lincoln Durkee and Reagan Durkee; one great-grandchild, Ashton Domes; one sister, Janice Freeman of Richmond, Virginia; one brother, Edward (Sue) Domes of Omaha, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews; and several past foster children.Funeral services will be held 12 Noon, Saturday (1/15/22), from St. Agatha’s Church, Canastota, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Friends may call at the church, 10 AM- 12 PM, Saturday, prior to the service. Randy was a good friend and had many "fix it" skills that he used to help me with some projects. He and his wife traveled with my wife and I to many places like Alaska and Hawaii, for example. We often gathered together for food, talk, and games and always on New Year's Eve. He will be missed.
