Thomas J. Moses

Verona-Thomas J. Moses, aged 88, passed away on September 29, 2023 at the Oneida Hospital. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on August 23, 1935 to Helen and Thomas Moses, Sr.Tom attended elementary and secondary school in the Wyoming Valley and graduated with the Class of 1953, from Larksville High School. Soon after graduation, Tom enlisted in the Air Force and spent time at Sampson Air Force Base in New York, Keesler Air Force Base in Florida and about 2 years at Ashiya Air Force Base in Japan. Following his military service, Tom attended King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA and received his bachelor's degree in the education field. Tom's teaching career included the New York State school districts of Nunda, Carthage, Central Square and Canastota. He spent 24 years at Canastota High School teaching Social Studies and Driver's Ed. He took pride in helping teens become responsible and safe drivers.Tom enjoyed the outdoors and took many camping trips with his family to the St. Lawrence and the Adirondacks. In later years, he spent time boating, organizing an extensive media collection and bird watching. Tom met his wife, of 59 years, Hilda, while both were teaching in Carthage, NY. They moved to Central New York and made their home in Verona.Tom was predeceased by his parents, two sisters, Joan and Toni, and infant son, Jonathan (1966).Tom is survived by his wife, Hilda and their eight children; Rebecca Moses (Russ Shaver) of Texas, Suzanne (Andrew) Williams of Maryland, Mary Jo (Charles) Murphy of Massachusetts, Patricia Moses of New York, Joanne Moses of Maryland, Linda Moses of Texas, Thomas (Katie) Moses of Maryland, Jeanette Moses of Maryland and grandchildren, Connor, Vivian, Eileen, Olivia, Luke, Evalyn, Eric and Emily.Viewing will take place Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 9:15 am to 10:15 am at Malecki Funeral Home in Vernon, NY (23 Front St.).
