Ed Barge Obituary

Athens - Ed Malone Barge Sr., 94, husband of Camilla Barge, died Monday, January 7, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of the late Miles William and Mabel Sockwell Barge. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Barge, son, Ed Malone Barge, Jr., infant daughter, Elizabeth Christina Barge, sisters: Margaret Barge McCaughey and Gladys Barge Lynch. Ed retired from National Life and Accident Insurance Company, served his country in the US Army during WWII and was a member of Milledge Avenue Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife survivors include his daughter: Mary Anne Hayes of Mountain View, AR; step children: Michael Nere of Carlsbad, CA, Janet O'Day of Prior Lake, Minnesota; brothers: Judge Richmond Barge of Tyrone, GA, Miles William Barge, Jr., of Hapeville, GA; sister: Helen Barge Cowan of Douglasville, GA; and several step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 11, 2008 at 10:30AM at Milledge Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Edward R. Bolen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, GA at 2:00PM.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Athens-Clarke County Library, 2025 Baxter Street, Athens, GA 30606.
Lord & Stephens East Chapel is in charge arrangements.

Although I have never met Ed, I wish to offer you my condolences. I am the grand-daughter of Jacob Jackson Barge and the daughter of Esther Barge Johnson. I keep in touch with Judge Barge and with MW. May God bless you and give you peace.

I was so sorry to hear of your father's death. I have many good memories of both your mother and father, including the Claxton fruitcakes we bought every Christmas and your mother's lovely poems and paintings.
