He was a fabulous doctor. He was my boss and a friend. I could call anytime and he was always ready to give me advice and share his life, especially his love for his son. He overjoyed when Amit met his love and started his own family. He was so kind to my late husband, Donny, and me. He took us to the Olympics in Athens, invited my coworkers and me to his son's piano recitals and numerous other times he showed friendship.
Doctor "D" I'm so thankful for your friendship. I'm thankful for the countless lives you saved.

I just today heard of Dr. D's passing. Amit and Family, please know that I hold you close in my heart, even now. Dr. D was so proud of Amit. He was not one for idle chit chat on the floor, but we always heard about your achievements. I so appreciated his dry wit. He often asked me to accompany him on his rounds on patients on a hospital floor, especially newer patients. He would always introduce himself, and then he'd add "and she is hear to tell you what I said." He was the first physician I met in the hospital who would provide a professional courtesy. He followed a nurse friend of mine with unsettling renal lab results for several years without charging one cent for her office visits. So many memories.

Dr. D was a dear friend. I worked for him for over 10 years and was blessed to do so. He was a brilliant physician who gave his all to his patients. He was a wonderful father to his beloved son, Amit and was so proud of him. I remember when he encouraged us to go hear Amit play piano at his recital. So proud! The last time we talked he spoke of his becoming a grandfather. I am thankful for this Dr. and friend. Much love to him and his family.

Dr. Dasgupta attended our mother for almost 15 years at his Athens clinic and was a tremendous stabilizer when times were tough. Mother loved to question him as to whether he was holding her overtime so that he could visit with me. Very grateful for his life and service.

The passing of Dr Gautam Dasgupta, the first renal (kidney) specialist in Athens, is truly the end of an era. He was very hardworking, routinely surpassing- and outdoctoring- physicians who were only half his age. Taciturn, observant, (mostly) inscrutable, with a sardonic sense of humor, indefatigable, always well-dressed (with his trademark fragrance) and sharply focused on the job at hand, he strode the halls of our regional hospitals with a well-deserved authority. I had wished he would have spent more days living in well-deserved idle retirement, but sadly, that was destined not to be. Knowing him, Im pretty sure that hed likely rate idleness as a grossly overrated virtue! I learnt a lot from him, and he was an example of the well-rounded community specialist, striving against remarkable odds to deliver quality care on a daily basis to his many patients. His monument exists in the thousands of lives he touched, the multiple lives he improved, his pioneering efforts in kidney disease, and the family he leaves behind.
May his immortal soul ascend to the highest reaches of Paradise. Go in peace, my friend, go in peace.

Dr. Dasgupta was always one of my favorite doctors at Athens Regional Medical Center. His dry since of humor always brought a smile to my face. I so enjoyed when he shared experiences of coming to America and living here. Dr. D was a true legend and I will miss him .
