Wednesday, a week after you departed, I heard the sound of a lawn mower. For one split second, I thought, "There goes Wayne." The two Melindas have decided to think that you're not gone, just somewhere on campus, doing what you always did best: helping someone and making them feel like there's nothing else you'd rather do. Oh, Wayne, we'll miss you. 'Hawleywood'

I worked with Wayne when Truett-McConnell College was in Watkinsville. He was always willing to do whatever was asked with a smile. We were all so happy that he was able to stay on with Gainesville College. I hope they enjoyed his dedication and spirit as much as we did. He will be missed.

I am truely saddened to hear of the loss of Wayne Smith. Even though I hadn't gotten to spend much time with him, his loss has touched me and he will be missed and remembered.

I'm going to miss you Wayne. See if you can't roam the heavens and look down on Stevie, Lindsey, Carole, and Eric. Imagine how wonderful their music will sound to you now. You gave that music a new meaning for me. I will miss your wry smile and your helpfulness and your friendship. I wish I'd had time to make more brownies and more coffee. -- Heather

Dear Smith family,

Our prayers and thoughts are with you during this difficult time. As an instructor at Gainesville College, I often observed Wayne working hard to keep the campus running smoothly. He made it possible for us teachers to teach more effectively. He consistently went about his duties with kindness and a calm demeanor. Like others, I am shocked and saddened, and I wish you God's comfort at this time.
