Mark Lyda Obituary

Mark F. Lyda, 47, of Athens, died March 5, 2012. He is the beloved son of Phyllis S. Lyda and the late Frederick (Fred) M. Lyda of Athens. He is grandson of the late Horace and Ethel Sales and Emory and Fanny Lyda of Fairview, N.C. He is survived by his sister, Roxanne and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Mark was born in Asheville, N.C. and he enjoyed many trips to the N.C. mountains. He is a graduate of Cedar Shoals High School and attended the University of Georgia. He was an avid outdoorsman, mechanical genius, and gifted writer. His intellect, strength, compassion, and especially his keen wit and warm smile, will be missed.
A private family memorial will be held. The family appreciates the loving care provided by St. Mary's Hospice and in lieu of flowers, requests donations to St. Mary's Hospice House (PO Box 6588, Athens, GA 30604).
Lord and Stephens East is in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis, I had hoped we could have visited you and Mark in January but I had some heart procedures that prevented any long trips then. Please know that you, Mark and Roxanne were in my thoughts and prayers. Steven and Henry told us of their visit to Mark a few weeks ago and we were glad they were able to see him and share old stories. We were saddened to learn of his passing and will miss his good humor and helpful ways at the mountain. God bless you and Roxanne with love and courage to face the time ahead.
