I worked with Patrick (Wulf) my first summer at Camp Kaleo. He was truly one of a kind. He kept the whole staff laughing the entire summer. His legacy lives on in the many stories about him we continue to tell.

Dear Jim and Ann and family, Nola & Bob, Marcy, Jill, Rachel, Jeff, Joel,

We were deeply saddened to learn of Patrick's death and for your loss. We only had the privilege of meeting Patrick when he was small. I'm thankful that Christina and Carl were able to spend time with him this past Thanksgiving. We mostly know him better by hearing his name lovingly referred to by his grandparents and his aunts and uncles. We grieve for your family and trust that God will continue to comfort your hearts as only He can. We are blessed to know your family and Patrick will be missed by us, too.

We love you,

My heart goes out to your family and I wish you the best in this difficult time.

Sue Lynn and I are continuing to pray for you and your family. Many, many here in Murphy are also praying. The stories of Patrick that were shared by the speakers on Saturday made us laugh. The stories were comforting as we realized that Patrick's life was secure by his trust in Jesus. The following letter is representative of many that are being received expressing prayer and support for your family. We love you and will continue praying for you.

Love, Ron and Sue Lynn Ledford

Parable of the Ship

There's a ship waiting out in the harbour and it's taking a loved one today. All the family and friends who wait on this end, they watch as it sails away. As they look out across the horizon the ship moves away so slow. As they look through their tears the ship disappears and they cry as they let it go.

On the other side of the ocean waits a Father with love in His heart. Those who've gone on before, they wait on that shore for the great celebration to start. As they watch out across the horizon the ship swiftly moves into sight; then the air fills with cheers as the ship appears and our loved one begins a new life.

As we travel across our life's ocean comes a time that we must make a choice, a new voyage begins when we ask Jesus in and the angels in heaven will rejoice.

I was blessed to be able to meet Patrick when I was a freshman at Ole Miss (Patrick was a sophomore). Patrick was a true Southern gentleman. After only meeting him once, one could easily discover his two great loves: his incredible family and his wonderful God. Even though I only knew him for a short time, I have memories with him that I will cherish for a lifetime. I pray that others can find comfort in the words of this famous hymn:

What'er my God ordains is right,

Holy His will abideth.

I will be still what'er He does,

And follow where He guideth.

He is my God,

Though dark my road.

He holds me that I shall not fall

Wherefore to Him I leave it all.

What'er my God ordains is right,

He never will deceive me

He leads me by the proper path,

I know He will not leave me

I take, content,

What He hath sent

His hand can turn my griefs away

and patiently I wait His day.

I feel very privileged to have known Patrick. He and I were fraternity brothers at Ole Miss. Around the house, he was just known as P. Ross. Patrick was a funny, kind, and extreamly caring person. He will be missed very much by his brothers at Phi Kappa Tau. My, and the rest of the brother's, hearts go out to the Ross family. He will forever be remembered.

Dear Ross Family,

My prayers and empathy go out to you during this difficult time! I will pray for God’s peace to fully cover you as you mourn Patrick’s death. I knew Patrick as a camper and later meet you, his family, when Michelle, my sister-in-law was on staff at First Madison. It is my loss that I never knew Patrick as he became a young man or when he served at Camp Kaleo as Wulf.

The Kaleo Brotherhood is a special group of young men (and some a little older) who love the Lord, love teaching Christ to young boys, and have a deep Christ-center friendship that last a lifetime and beyond! We used to say Camp Kaleo was a little bit of Heaven on Earth. Well, I know and trust that Patrick is worshiping our Lord and Savior in Heaven which is immeasurably better than being at Camp Kaleo. God is and will be with you.

Dear Dr.& Mrs. Ross & family,

We here in Tennessee are so saddened by your loss. We have fallen in love with Marcy and consider her "one of our own" now, so anything that brings pain to her and those she loves also causes us deep sorrow.

Please know that you have a multitude of extended family praying for you during this time. We wish you the peace and comfort that passes all understanding.

Patrick and I worked together at Camp Kaleo in 2001. Prior to that, we were actually campers together a couple of times. He was always tons of fun to work with and hang out with. He had an incredible ability to make us laugh, and he always had that threadbare hat. The campers all loved him and he was able to have a great impact on many of their lives. We miss you Wulf; our brother and our friend.

We pray for God's mercy and grace right now. I can't imagine that any words would comfort you.

I haven't seen Patrick since his days as a camper at Camp Kaleo, but I will always remember him as a young man that stood above the crowd.

I was also very fortunate to have worked with Patrick for two summers at Camp. He was a great friend and always made me laugh. We could talk all day about anything on any topic. He was always so creative and had great ideas for the future. I will never forget those times we spent hanging out at Camp. I still feel that this isn't real and that somehow there has been a mistake, but I know that I will get a chance to see him again soon. See you soon bro.

May this poem which was from my Mother help in this very sad time.

Do not stand at my grave & weep,

I am not there. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn's rain.

When you awaken in the morning's hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circled flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry;

I am not there. I did not die.

Jim & Ann,

I am so sorry to hear about Patrick. I learned of this at school yesterday. I remember when I was teaching at Morgan County High School and would watch Patrick walk down the halls, smiling and talking to his friends. He would always speak to me. Such a handsome and polite young man. Know that Patrick and Brian are now sharing stories and memories up in heaven! Patrick now can become your guardian angel, just as Brian is mine!

Please accept my most sincere condolences.

I was proud to have Patrick Ross as my best friend. I will always remember our late night drives around Oxford and our annual trip to Shiloh to honor our Confederate ancestors. He was a true Gentleman and Scholar. Patrick always made us laugh with his quick, witty remarks. He will be greatly missed. Deo Vindice my friend. Patrick has crossed over the river and now rests in the shade of the trees.
