Tony Fleming Obituary
He is survived by his beloved wife Faye Beck Fleming; dear mother Frederica L. Fleming Newsome (John P.) of Decatur; brother William T. "Buddy" Fleming Jr. of Snellville; sisters Katherine F. Cullerton (Jeffrey H.) of Evanston, IL and Laura F. McKellar (Russell D.) of Atlanta; aunts Mary Linda Thomas of Oakton, VA and Virginia F. Matthews of Stone Mountain; nephews William T. Fleming III, David W. McKellar, and Lewis M. Fleming, and nieces Meghan R. McKellar and Katherine G. McKellar; affectionate cousins and treasured canines.
Tony was a native Atlantan and a graduate of Briarcliff High School and Georgia State University. He served honorably and proudly with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC. Taking after his late father, William Torrance Fleming Sr., Tony was both woodworker and wordsmith, sports fan and music lover (albeit different music).
A journalist by profession, Tony was associated with Thomson Reuters for the past nine years. Early in his career, he was an award-winning sports editor at the Americus Times-Recorder.
The family will receive friends at A.S. Turner & Sons, Decatur, on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial service at A.S. Turner & Sons on Thursday at 1 p.m., interment to follow at Decatur Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a fund has been set up to help Buddy and Nancy rebuild via BB&T, 1134 Clark St. SW, Covington, GA 30014, attention Cathy Laseter.
