Clifford Vernon Craig

Clifford Vernon Craig Sr., 95, died Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Westside Baptist Church with Rev. Gene Gaston and Rev. Vernon Craig Jr. officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Craig was born February 12, 1929, in Chester, S.C. and was a son of the late Marion Francis Craig and Pearlie Lillian Bell Craig and the husband of the late Ruth Crosby Craig for 66 years. He was a graduate of Chester High School through the GED program. Mr. Craig served for more than 31 years in the National Guard and retired as an insurance agent. He started his working career with Springs Industries and worked with several other insurance companies throughout his career. After retirement, Clifford worked with Walmart.
Clifford was a member of Westside Baptist Church, where he served as Music Director for over 50 years. He was a good soloist and a strong Christian man. Clifford was also a Deacon, taught Sunday School and worked with the youth.
He is survived by three children, Vernon Craig Jr. (Karen) of Chester, Denise Craig Stewart (David) of Chester and Anita Craig Barrett (John) of Rock Hill; seven grandchildren, Becky, Cliff, Lee Ann, Jason, Michael, Dana and Katie; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Clifford was preceded in death by three brothers, Carl, Bill and Ervin Craig.
