William Atkinson Obituary

Mr. William Douglas "Doug" Atkinson, 79, of Calhoun Falls passed away Sept. 21, 2012, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.
He was born Aug. 21, 1933, in Coronaca, S.C. to the late Jack Atkinson and Cecil Shirley Atkinson and was raised in Chester County. He graduated from Chester High School in 1951 and from Clemson University in 1955. He retired from the S.C. National Guard and was a farmer. He was a member of Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church, Calhoun Falls American Legion, the Calhoun Falls Lions Club and a life member of the Calhoun Falls Masonic Lodge. Doug was an avid Clemson fan and a lifetime IPTAY member.
He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Joe Adams.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, JoAnn Burriss Atkinson; three daughters, Cheryl (Bert) Broadwell of Calhoun Falls, Lynn (Miyuki) Kato of Mason, Ohio and Laura (Chris) Boyd of Greenwood; two brothers, Robert Lee (Mary Nell) Atkinson of Charleston and James L. (Julia) Atkinson of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Shirley (Lawrence) Shuler of Chester; "Papa Doug's" seven grandchildren, Derek Adams, Christy Adams (Thomas) Moore, Misaki, Miharu and Sayaka Kato and Jack and Sam Boyd; and a special caregiver, Laura Busbee.
The funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Calhoun Falls United Methodist Church. Dr. Frank McCoy officiated. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Joan, Just know we are thinking of you during this time. Doug was a good person and we are sad that he had to suffer this illness. You took great care of him and he was blessed for that. God bless you. Hilda and Charles

TO THE FRIENDS AND FAMILY OF MR ATKINSON. DIDN'T KNOW YOU THAT LONG, ONLY HAD THE NURSERING HOME. MRS ATKINSON, YOU ARE A TROOPER, YOU ARE A LOYAL WIFE AND A GREAT INSPIRATION TO ME.
