Deborah Marr Obituary

Deborah L. Marr, age 65, passed peacefully at her residence, on July 6, 2021.
Debbie called Lincoln (Sacramento), Calif., her home, for the last 27 years. She worked as a litigation manager for Union Pacific Railroad. She retired in 2017, after her 39-year career. Debbie loved her job and her travels, for both work, and pleasure.
Debbie was born April 8, 1956, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Mrs. Alma L. (Duffy) Marr and her late father, Mr. Donald F. Marr. Debbie attended Queen of Apostles and St. Albert schools, and enjoyed playing the piano and organ during church services. She graduated valedictorian, Class of 1974. She continued her education, graduating from Iowa Western Community College as a legal secretary, then attended both the University of Nebraska-Omaha and Bellevue University, completing her BS degree. She began her career with UPRR, in Omaha, Neb. Debbie transferred to Roseville (Sacramento), Calif., for the railroad in 1994 where she lived and loved California, for the remainder of her life.
Debbie led a very active retirement. She had a serious passion for golf, and was so proud to have hit a hole in one! Debbie was always and avid reader. She kept busy with her book club, her bowling league, golfing buddies and the Sacramento chapter of The American Sewing Guild. Although she spent more time assisting with the sewing guild's technical support than she ever did any real sewing. She lived her life fully. She had many friends and considered them all family wherever she was. Debbie was a terrific aunt, sister and daughter. She spent the last few years focused on caring for her mother and family. Debbie was a little woman with a big presence, in the lives of many. She was determined, stubborn and dynamic. Debbie was a born leader. She was smart, funny, and had a thoughtful, gentle soul.
Deborah is survived by her mother, Alma Marr, sister Dianne (Scott) Gubbels, brothers Donald (Kari) Marr, and Daniel Marr, all of Omaha, Neb., Her greatest prides and joy, were her nephews Logan Gubbels, Sean, Morgan, Colin, and niece, Madeline Marr.
Debbie's Rosary and wake services were conducted by Fr. Michael Berner, Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring, Bayliss Park Chapel with interment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Council Bluffs.
