JOHN SCHLATTER Obituary

Schlatter, John Wayne

John Wayne Schlatter, "Jack" to his many friends, was born on 7/5/35, in East Aurora, N.Y. The fourth son of George and Miriam Schlatter, he attended Manual Arts HS in LA where he was the Student Body President. He achieved the same distinction as a student at Pepperdine College. Though a gregarious, fun-loving performer himself, his greatest gift was revealed when he began teaching. He taught drama at Sycamore and Oak JHS and Katella HS in Anaheim. He retired in the eighties from McAuliffe Middle School. Jack was also a prolific writer of inspirational anecdotes and stories, many based on his teaching experiences. He contributed several pieces to the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, but his finest writings were compiled into his own books, I am a Teacher and Gifts by the Side of the Road. He passed away on 12/19/14 in Colorado.

His only living brother, George Schlatter, survives him.

A memorial service will be held this Saturday, January 24, at 2:00 PM at "His Place Church Westminster" - 14061 Chestnut Street, Westminster, CA.

Quite simply one of the finest people I have ever known. Thank you Mr. Schlatter for your wit, wisdom, and guidance. You made a difference in my life and so many others. You are missed.

In 2005 Jack Schlatter became a follower of Jesus Christ. He wholeheartedly embraced the Good News and received the free gift of Eternal Life. His sins were washed away by the Blood of the Lamb of God and he was Born Again. I am looking forward to spending eternity with him and seeing him in his glorious new body and visiting his mansion in Heaven. I am so grateful for his investment in my life and in the lives of MANY students. He inspired me to become a teacher. Kathy Abbot Troxel

A great teacher and encouraged so many students to love life, enjoy class, drama and pursue dreams. He was one of those teachers that we all loved greatly.
Debra Kessler, Sycamore class of 71 and Katella class of 74. Thank you Mr. Schlatter, Debra Kessler Passo.
