Ronald Cornell Obituary

Cornell, Ronald Reed 7/26/52 - 8/10/07 Ronald Reed Cornell passed away during his sleep on August 10, 2007 in Windermere, Florida, where he lived with wife Elizabeth Hartter-Cornell and newborn son Lucas Reed Cornell. Ron was born in Fremont, Nebraska in 1952 to Norma and Clancy Cornell. He lived his formative years in Faribault, MN and graduated high school from Faribault Senior High School in 1970. Ron was an adventurer, enjoying everything from skiing, fishing, boating, hunting, snowmobiling, and riding his Harley. He was an avid traveler and loved sharing his favorite places such as Iceland, Africa, Europe, China, Hawaii, and the rest of United States, with his family and friends. One of his passions was designing and building his home in Telluride, CO. He was a gracious host and frequently entertained family, friends, and business associates there, as well as in his vacation home in Miami. Ron entered the transportation industry at an early age, working for his parents Norma and Clancy Cornell. He helped his father and brother, Dane Cornell, grow the company his parents began into what became the enterprise of ABC Companies. Under their leadership, ABC Companies grew into a multi-location, international distributor and leader in the motor coach industry. He supported the industry by serving on the boards of the American Bus Association and the Trailways organization. He was passionate about preserving the industry's legacy through donation of specific era vintage buses to The Bus Museum, and The Greyhound Bus Museum. At the time of his death, Ron was Chairman of ABC Companies. Ron is survived by his wife Elizabeth; their infant son, Lucas; his son, Roman (Michelle); daughter, Ryhan, and their mother, Robyn Cornell. He is also survived by his father Clancy Cornell (MaryAnn); siblings Debra Cornell, Roxanne Cornell (Jennifer Polzin), Dane Cornell (Judy), and Jennifer Schmidt (Kyle). Beloved nieces and nephews include Kerry Berken, Angie Stanton, Angie Cornell, Ashley Cornell, Ellexandria Schmidt, Katon Schmidt, and their families. He is also survived by his much loved aunts, uncles, cousins, and other extended family and friends. The family has requested a private service on Thursday, August 16, 2007. The Cornell family asks that all memorials in Ron's honor be sent to The Hazelden Foundation c/o Silkworth Patient Aid Fund P.O. Box 11, Center City, MN 55012; (800) 257-7810. I have learned to appreciate Ron in the twenty years of cooperation with ABC. He evolved into one of the industry captains, driven and passionate about the bus business, with an overwhelming thrive for growth, in the interest of the industry and the working community. This is how he will be remembered and for which he has earned our deepest respect.

Clancey, Maryann, and family,

Our heartful sympathy goes out to you. There are no words of comfort that seem significant at this time.

In time you will be able to look back on his memories and smile, but now even the very best memories are very painful.

We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. God took you there and he will take you through this painful time in your life.

Our love and prayers, Howard & Helen

I saw Ron last month. He looked happier and healthier than he had in the last six years that I have known him. He was a good man who accomplished a lot. He leaves a hole in this world that can not be filled.

I have known Ron since 1976 when the Cornell family started ABC Bus Sales. Like my father Stan and Clancy, myself and Ron became very close friends also. He was much more to me than a business colleague. . a good friend, like an older brother, and in many ways, a hero to me. My deepest sympathies to the Cornell family. Our prayers are with you.

Oh, how many memories our families have had with Ron. From all of us growing up together through thick and thin. My mom (Evelyn) always talks about when Ron,Robyn and Rick lived in Sarasota together and how much fun they had. When we think of Ron, we think of fun and many different adventures throughout his short life. He was a great guy and will be missed by our family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Cornell family at this most difficult time.

Hopefully with time we can look back on someone no longer with us, not with sadness, but with joy, because we had a chance to share their time.

With time we can give someone no longer with us the greatest of compliments, by using what we have learned from them to live more fully and joyfully.

A person lives on through our thoughts of them, and whether it is with sadness or joy that we remember them, that is how they live on.

May our memories be with joy.

With loving memories, Rick and Kim Harsh

Although my tenure with ABC Companies is short, my history in the industry is long. And with that said, Mr. Cornell was well known and highly regarded in our industry. It has been my pleasure to have worked in the company he helped build and also to watch the growth he helped push in my short time here. May you rest in peace Mr. Cornell and may your family and friends griving hearts be filled with love and great memories of you and your endevours.
