Zan Ortiz Obituary

Ortiz, Zan. April 12, 1961-April 10, 2009. Our beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Uncle, Cousin and Friend, passed away peacefully on Good Friday at his parents home in Brea. He was born in Burbank and lived many years in La Habra and Brea. His passing was peaceful and unexpected due to complications from diabetes. He traveled through life with great humor and artistic talent. The last 20 years were spent in San Jose and Arcata where he was an enthusiastic drummer, participating in drum circles in Golden Gate Park and Arcata. He left behind beautiful jewelry he hand crafted, as well as beaded art objects and paintings. His family knows he was met in Heaven by grandparents, Martin and Mary Swain. He is survived by his parents, Gus and Barbara Ortiz; daughter, Jessee Goss; son, Timothy, and their mother, Danette; his wife, Carla in Arcata; sisters, Diana Miller, Joyce Nichols, and Laura Greendyke; nieces, Lara, Christy, Rebecca, Abra and Arlena; nephews, David, Lexy, Joe and Dave; uncle, Joe; aunt, Lillian and cousins, Dick and Hal. A service was held on his birthday, April 12th in Arcata. Another service will take place for the scattering of ashes in the beautiful forest he loved so much, the date has not been determined at this time. Rest in peace dear Zan. Your light will shine in our hearts forever.

Uncle Zan you will forever be remembered in my mind with a smile. I don't remember one time ever hearing you have a negative tone in your voice, always being carefree. You will be missed by me dearly and I know you are smiling down from heaven now upon me. I love you Uncle Zan.

Dear Zan,
You were a great guy, I remember how much I enjoyed being around you during the summers at grandma's house. I wanted to be you, you were the coolest cat I knew and a true Californian. You're free spirit and no worries attitude was infectious and enabled those around you to relax and enjoy their own freedoms. My children didn't get to know you as I had hoped for them to know their Uncle Zan...a sweet hearted man who loved everyone he met. You were never scared to seek the newest adventure and live today. I will miss you sir, we will all miss you and look forward to the day when we can all laugh again together. Love David Durbin

My dearest brother Zan who art in Heaven, you always used to say, "Life is good, it's all Good" and "God is the answer, now what's the question?" and the Prayer you loved that we recited together so often, always made you smile...I'm missing you my best friend in all the world, I'm grateful you were in my life and I will always miss you, forever and ever....so as my tears of Love for You begin to fall let us pray...
Our Father, who art in heaven
hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
