Buck Kaufman Obituary

Buck Kaufman
June 28, 1929 - May 14, 2021
Francis LeRoy "Buck" Kaufman passed away peacefully Friday, May 14, 2021. He lived in his home until the end, and was with family when he passed.
Buck Kaufman was born in 1929 in Bisbee, N.D., to France Kaufman and Elvera (McElwain) Kaufman. He attended Tigard High School, where he was a member of the football team and infamous for his clever pranks. After graduating in 1949, he married classmate Patricia Kinney in Portland, Ore. They raised three children in the Metzger neighborhood of Tigard, where they had spent much of their own youths. Buck was said to have magic hands and was blessed with the strength and dexterity to fix or build nearly anything. He worked as a lineman at Portland General Electric for many years, a job that he truly loved, and was a 70-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. An avid outdoorsman, he often came home with fresh salmon or venison, which his wife Pat expertly prepared. After his "retirement" he kept busy upgrading his home, helping anyone who asked with numerous projects, restoring classic cars, and visiting with friends and family. Like his father before him, Buck grew his own tomatoes each year until his death.
Buck was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia. He is survived by his children, Jennifer Fossati (Dale), Jeff Kaufman and Sheila Haskin (Dale); grandchildren, Brooke Fossati, Nick Fossati (Julia), Valerie Wernet (Emilie), Maureen Bailey (Zachary) and Jennifer Haskin (Dave).
Interment will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Crescent Grove Cemetery. Gathering immediately following at Buck's home, 9865 S.W. 77th Ave., Portland.

Becky Ball for Jim Ball

June 11, 2021

Hi there, I'm writing this for my Dad Jim Ball. He thought the world of Buck! He said that "Buck was a great guy!" Dad knew him for years through PGE. Dad was a lineman also. He is one year younger than Buck. He will miss him. We will be there at the interment at 1:00. I've included a picture of Dad (Jim Ball) taken in 1950. He is changing out insulators - 33,000 volts. I worked with Buck at PGE many years ago. He was a line foreman then and a pleasure to work with.

Our condolences to Buck's family. I worked for Buck on PGE line crews. He was a great foreman - he got a lot of work done and treated his crews well! I learned so much about the trade through him. I am grateful to have known and worked for him.
