Homer Frederick Rohse

Rohse, Homer Frederick 92 June 07, 1919 Feb. 09, 2012 Homer Rohse - husband, father, journalist, pilot, golfer, traveler and friend - died on Feb. 9 in McMinnville. His wife of 70 years, Elaine, was at his side. It was the end of a long life lived well by a good man. Homer was born in Portland and grew up on his family's prune and walnut farm by Vancouver Lake. In 1941, he joined the Army Air Corps, where he was a flight instructor and flew B-29 Superfortress bombers. After WWII, he left active duty but served in the reserve, reaching the rank of major. After the war, Homer earned a Bachelors Degree in journalism from University of Oregon. He then embarked on a long and distinguished career with McMinnville's hometown newspaper, today's News Register, retiring in 1986. He was active in many civic and business groups. Homer Rohse is survived by his wife, Elaine; son, Mitch; daughter-in-law, Louann; granddaughter, Julie; grandson, Jeff; and five great-grandchildren. He will live in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Rohse Family Journalism Scholarship of Linfield College or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at Macy and Son Funeral Directors, 135 NE Evans, McMinnville. A reception will follow at 12 p.m. at the Methodist Church Great Room, 544 NE 2nd Street, McMinnville. Private family interment will be held at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.
