Anthony Pohlman Obituary

POHLMAN, ANTHONY J. "Tony", age 95 of Orange City died on October 30, 2009, at the West Volusia Care Center of Hospice of Volusia/Flagler. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY and he earned a Certificate in Accounting from Pace Institute of New York City. In the 1930's he joined a horse Cavalry Unit of the NY National Guard and he served in the U.S. Army in World War II. The early parts of his business career were spent with several companies in the commercial finance industry where he began as an auditor and eventually rose to the title of Vice President. The latter stage of his career was spent with the Hollinger Corporation, a corrugated carton manufacturer located in Arlington, VA. He served as Vice President in charge of all financial operations of the company. He retired in 1976 to Orange City where he resided for the remainder of his life. He was an avid golfer and retained a strong interest in the sport even after his playing days had ended. He was a warm, caring, and charming person whose friendship was valued by many. He will be missed greatly by his relatives and many friends. He is survived by his loving wife, Doris; his stepson, George Chezmar; and stepdaughter-in-law,
Kimberly, of Newport, Rhode Island. He is also survived by Larry Dietz, Lorene Woldin, and Joan Nelson, stepchildren from a previous marriage. He is also survived by his nieces, Margaret Solez of Bluffton, South Carolina and Sally
Coleman; and nephew, James Pohlman of Mendham, New Jersey. Donations may be made to the Maryknoll Missions, The Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, or the American Cancer Society. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 6 to 8 p.m. with a wake service at 7 p.m. at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. A requiem Mass will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in DeBary. Burial will follow Mass in Deltona Memorial Gardens.
