Barbara Bozeman Obituary

BOZEMAN, BARBARA ELLEN GRIMMETT, returned to the Lord on Tuesday, September 20. She was born on May 15, 1948 in West Palm Beach. The daughter of a career Navy pilot, she had 19 addresses before she was 13 years old. She attended high school in Key West, Florida before finishing at Houston Memorial High School. She graduated from FSU in 1970 with a BA in Elementary Education, and went on to get her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. Barbara was an educator for 28 years, as a teacher and an administrator; she truly loved all of her students and instilled in them a love of learning. She was dedicated to local politics and civic affairs and she ran for Orange County Commissioner in 1990. She served as an active member of the Holden Avenue Inter-Neighborhood Council, the Orange County Homeowner's Association, the Orange Blossom Trail Re-development Board, and the Lake Jessamine Water Advisory Board. She was also a member of the Orange County Planning and Zoning Commission. She was instrumental in preserving the Holden Avenue neighborhood and securing Cypress Grove Park, an enduring legacy and gift to our community. Barbara was passionate about her family, her faith, fishing and the 'Noles. She was an active member of St. James Catholic Cathedral. She is predeceased by her father, Charles; her brother, Stephen; and her grandson, Benjamin. She is survived by the love of her life and husband of 40 years, Jim; their children, Ryan and Claire, whom she considered her greatest blessings, her beloved mother Carolyn Meara, and her grandsons Charlie and Ethan who kept her smiling and young at heart. Arrangements will be handled by All Faiths Funeral Home (407-898-1698). A Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Cathedral, 215 N. Orange Avenue, at 4 pm on Monday, September 26, preceded by a viewing and visitation at 3 pm in the Cathedral's Chapel.
