On November 26, 2023, our beloved mother, Barbara Ellis Price, joined our father on the heaven side of eternity. Our Heavenly Father, in His wisdom and perfect purpose, called her home. She is now with Dad and the rest of her awaiting family and friends in her heavenly home.
Barbara, the daughter of J. T. and Mabel Ellis, was born on November 24, 1941, in
Winter Park, Florida. She attended Winter Park Elementary and Junior High and graduated in 1959 from Winter Park High School. She met the love of her life, Karick Price, while working as a receptionist at the law firm of Giles, Hedrick & Robinson in downtown Orlando. Their love story became official on March 19, 1961, and eventually included three children. They spent the rest of their lives devoted to family and friends.
Mom was the consummate hostess. A devoted Gator, she hosted motor home tailgates in Gainesville for decades, taking great joy in providing a delicious and filling spread which always included Olde Dixie Fried Chicken and her favorite tailgate recipes. She and Dad started a July 4th family and friends celebration by the lake which grew from 20 to over 400 guests. They thoroughly loved fellowship and opportunities to gather with friends.
Defined by loyal service and generosity to her family, friends, and the Orlando community, she served as a "pink lady" at Orange Memorial (now Orlando Health) and the Orlando Day Nursery. Mom was a proud and faithful member of The Rosalind Club holding five different board positions in her 43 years of membership. In recognition of her service and commitment, she was designated as an Honorary Member.
Mom's sincere faith in Jesus Christ extended to others through her servant's heart. As a member of First Baptist Church of Orlando since 1964, she became a "bonus mom" to many. She will be remembered for her listening ear, wise counsel and selfless service to adults and youth alike. Her love and commitment for her own three children was always on display. She freely and lovingly invested her time and energy in PTA meetings, school functions, sporting events, recitals, and church activities.
Our mother was simply splendid. Not in some grandiose or formal way. No, her beauty, value and measure came in the simple ways. She demonstrated her deep love and commitment to our father throughout the years of his journey with multiple sclerosis without complaint. He always thought he was a rich man because he got to be married to Barbara which he counted as his highest privilege and achievement. Her constant devotion to our father still stands as the finest chapter in the Price family journey.
Together they taught by example and left a great legacy that continues to impact their children and grandchildren. They gave laughter, love, time and commitment. Our dreams became their dreams. Our fears became their cause; our failures became their teaching moments; our disappointments became their opportunity to show love and grace. The years shared with our parents were and will continue to be a gift to us.
Throughout her life, Mom was our force for good through her steadfast love and her constant example of grace, patience, and commitment. Mom's sacrifices were unheralded. Her countless acts of love cannot be condensed to mere moments, and her vigilance and protections are not measured by a clock or calendar. Our Mom smoothed rough edges and healed wounds offering us listening ears and a sympathetic heart.
Forever united with her husband, Karick, Barbara is survived by her children: Karick Price, Jr., (Wade), Stephen Price (Sandy), Laura Overton (Eric) of
Hoover, Alabama; her grandchildren: Collin Price (Sarah), Foster Price, Logan Price, Meredith Overton Crawford (Alex), Will Overton, Lindsay Overton Rawson (Jacob); her great-grandchildren: Caroline, Hannah, and Delaney Price; McCall, Asa, and Madison Crawford; and, her devoted sister Kathie Friedley (Charles) as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
We remember her fondly, mourn her loss, but smile at our father's unexpected and continued good fortune. We children, her family, and friends are blessed and better because there was a "Mom," a "Babby " and a "Barbara" in our lives. We will continue to love her deeply from this side of eternity and rejoice for her life with Dad on the forever side. She helped shape our hearts and will always reside there.
Her celebration service will be held at First Baptist Church of Orlando, 3000 South John Young Parkway,
Orlando, FL on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
