Christopher Fecht Obituary

Fecht, Christopher Christopher John Fecht joined other saints in heaven on April 20, 2014. Although badly injured in a car accident at 15, Chris proved his doctors and others wrong by going on to graduate with his Lakeland High class and then to earn his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the U. of Central Florida in Orlando. Before his lingering injuries caught up with him, he worked with the elderly and others at the City of Altamonte Springs and helped raise money for their therapeutic pool. Chris lightened the lives of all who knew him, especially his family and many friends in Lakeland and the Orlando area. Chris is survived by his father John Fecht, step-mother Kay Sutton Fecht, sister Susan C. Fecht, aunt Anita Fecht Kline, cousin Daniel Kline, and step-brothers and step-sisters Tim Sutton (Regina), Scott Sutton (Heather), Michell Laing (David), and step-nieces Addison and Alexandra. There will be a celebration of Chris' life on Saturday April 26 at Crisp Coon Funeral Home, 201 First St. N., Winter Haven, beginning at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alliance for Independence in Lakeland.

I found myself telling my daughter Grace, now 27, about Chris, who she had never met. I told her about the trajectory of his life: about his courage, tenacity, and grace; his fierce independence, sharp humor, and love of his family and friends. Rest in peace dear Chris.

The weekend Anita and I spent with Chris in Florida, watching the way he lived his life, was a lesson to me in courage. Despite his struggles with the physical world, Chris was bright, funny, kquick to make friends. He was also wry, seeing the world through ironic-tinted glasses. I keep a photo of him beaming out at me. I especially remember him when Anita and I visit Point Lobos, on the San Francisco coast.

Chris really was a sweet guy. I lived with him and my mother during high school and he would always make Me giggle as he crawled around the house whistling. He had a positive attitude despite the many challenges he faced and influenced me to work out and be in shape. I hope his passing was peaceful and for anyone who had the pleasure of being his friend or acquaintance, know that you are blessed to have been around such a healing amber aura. Rock n roll Chris! Thank you for all the smiles!

I knew of Chris, though his Aunt Anita, and talked with him on the phone from time to time, long before I met him face to face and spent time with him in March 2014. The first thing he did when we picked him up at his house, was to give us sandwiches. He thought we might be hungry. We were. That action was pure Chris. He then hoisted himself out of his wheel chair and into the car, had a huge smile on his face, and talked with cheerful energy about his working out at the gym, his travels, his friends. He had wide ranging interests, and a wide-range vocabulary which he used to speak with great precision about what he was thinking. He was remarkable. I'm 72, and in my entire life I've never met anyone with the sheer will and determination that Chris had. He and his family are in my thoughts and my heart.

Chris sincerely cared about his friends and I am proud he let me be part of his life. I don't know how many times his good moods and laughter lifted my spirits. He loved to be mischievous and loved it more if he could get you to be mischievous with him :-). Life had difficulties for Chris...and I do miss him deeply. Love you 4ever Chris ?

I have loved this beautiful man for the past six years. I knew how much you loved your independence and had to "accept the hand" that you were dealt in this life. I know that you are now not just walking but running and flying. You aren't just talking clearly but singing. You loved to sing. You are now playing drums for your King. Chris, you were truly a gift and inspiration to everyone. You had such grit, determination and fire to perform the many things that everyone else took for granted. You are now free. I will miss you and cry for you until we meet again. PC
