Cynthia Matzick Obituary

Cyndi Matzick went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 8, 2022 after a four month battle with cancer.

She and her husband of 52 years, Rick, moved to Orlando in the mid 1980's from their home town of Chicago, IL. Cyndi's career included over 22 years as an executive with the Greater Orlando Chamber of Commerce. There she worked enthusiastically to better the business environment of her beloved Orlando.

In addition to church activities, she was a longtime volunteer with the Orlando Pet Alliance, where she put her love for kitty cats into action. Upon retirement she broadened her activities by being an active participant and volunteer in the Master Gardner program at the Orange County Extension Office.

All that being said, her foremost love was for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ whom she served and depended on throughout her adult life. Especially in her final months of her earthly life.

Surviving Cyndi is her loving husband, Rick. Brother-in-Law Michael and wife Jolene, Niece Lise, Nephews Aaron and Glenn, and eight great nieces and nephews. Also, many friends, both two and four legged who will truly miss this wonderful gal.

Remembrances can be made to: Pet Alliance Orlando or Discovery Church Orlando

I just today (November 4) learned of Cyndi's (and Rick's) passing through a sweet card from Cyndi's brother. I, too, worked with Cyndi at the Orlando Chamber for 13 years. We shared our love of the Lord, of Orlando, and our love of kitties. Cyndi was an amazing, enthusiastic, vivacious woman who taught me so much during my tenure at the Chamber. She was a co-worker and also a friend. I was saddened to learn this news but grateful that Rick followed her to heaven so soon after.

Cyndi, you will be deeply missed at all of our MG functions. I enjoyed volunteering with you over the years. We were in the same MG graduation class. You have earned your angel wings.

I am still at a loss at Cyndi's abrupt passing. She had such incredible energy, unbounded enthusiasm and limitless joy. She was an incredible Gardner, savior to many kittens and cats and a fun generous friend. I am grateful for her friendship The world is a bit better for her being in it. I will miss her huge smile!

I am a long-time buddy of Rick's from the earliest classes at our grammar school in the 1950's. At our grade school reunion in 1973 (photo) I met Rick's bride of a couple years, Cyndi. I was impressed by seeing such a beautiful, loving couple they were. Even though we lost touch for a few years, I have come to know Cyndi, through Rick, and how much they meant to each other. The loving couple of the 70s were lovebirds right up to her last day. Our sincere sympathies go out to my buddy and all the family members of Rick and Cyndi, from Harry and Margaret Blesy, St. Joseph, Michigan.

Cyndi and I served together for many years at the Orlando Humane Society under the leadership of Barbara Wetzler. It took awhile but I joined Cyndi and Barbara for lunch on a regular basis at Fuji Sushi. During one of those lunches both found out we wanted to Trek with the Mountain Gorillas in Uganda and was a trip of a lifetime. We traveled to Brazil to see Jaguars and had planned on Borneo but life changes and then Covid derailed us from the trip. I always felt the love between Cyndi and Rick and could hear it in her phone conversations. As I know first hand how difficult it is to lose your spouse but the vail of death is but temporary and Cyndi will be walking with you until it is your time to go home and what a glorious homecoming that will be
We will all miss her

Cyndi had such a positive influence on Orlando and Central Florida through her role at the Chamber and her involvement in the community. I will never forget her boundless energy, her optimism and her zest for life. She loved Orlando and Orlando loved her. She will be missed. I live in Orlando today because Cyndi hired and mentored me many years ago. Rick, we share in your loss and stand ready to support you in the days ahead.
