George Albright Obituary

Albright, Jr., George George Jacob Albright Jr. went to be with his savior on Monday, September 12, 2016. He was born September 24, 1931 in a home in Weirsdale, Florida, the proud son of the late George J. Albright Sr. and Julie E. Albright (Martin), all of Weirsdale. George graduated from Weirsdale High School in 1950, and attended the University of Florida from 1950 to 1954. George excelled in his college endeavors, joining Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and Circle K, a Kiwanis organization. He was also elected to Florida Blue Key and the U of F Student Hall of Fame. To this day George loves his Orange and Blue! George is the retired Executive Vice President of National Standard Life Insurance Co. of Orlando, having started with the company out of college in 1954, and rising through the ranks up to his retirement in 1973. George managed over 400 agents in twenty offices throughout Florida, and was selected "Man of the Year " by the Florida Insurance Council in 1971. In 1973 George embarked on a new career forming Albright Realty and joining Kiwanis International. His business timing was perfect and Albright Realty provided him and his family with financial success for forty years. In addition, George supported his family by the citrus groves he and his father George Sr. planted in the Weirsdale area. George and his wife Aggie's lifelong love for community service blossomed after joining Kiwanis. They were quite a team! George's rise through the Kiwanis ranks includes: 1975 President of the Lake Weir Club; 1981 Lt. Governor Division 18; 1991 Florida District Treasurer; 1992 Governor elect; the Governor for 1993-94. Finally George capped his Kiwanis journey as the President of Kiwanis International Foundation worldwide, raising millions of dollars for children's causes. George and Aggie's 40 year perfect attendance at Kiwanis included starting the statewide "Apples for Teachers" program, creating the Annual Florida Kiwanis Cookbook; and beginning the George Albright Charity Golf Tournament, which lasted over twenty years. Both are Hixon Diamond 16 award recipients, Kiwanis Ambassadors, and members of the Kiwanis Heritage Society. George's lifelong love and commitment to the Weirsdale Presbyterian Church began with his baptism in 1931, by his grandfather, the Reverend George Edwin Albright. During his lifetime George served his church as an Elder, Deacon, Finance Committee member and many committee chairs. He always looked forward to selling and delivering over 500 tickets each year to the annual Boy Scout Spaghetti Dinner held at the church. George loved politics and enjoyed supporting many local candidates for office. He served Marion County as its Building and Zoning Committee Chair and was a member of the County's Environmental Land Council aka "Pennies for Parks". Many of his happiest times were spent with Aggie at their cabin on Cattail Creek in North Carolina. George's wit and humor will be missed by everyone who had the privilege to know him. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 43 years Aggie, his four sons, George III,(Tammy), Dr. David, (Jackie), Clay, (Donna), and Justin; grandchildren Brandon, Austin, Reagan, Molly, Carly, Jake, Ryan, JJ, and Isabella. All are extremely blessed to live in Marion County. He is preceded in death by his parents and his infant brother Billy. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to the Lake Weir Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 725, Ocklawaha, FL . 32183 The family will be receiving friends from 5-7pm on Friday, September, 16, 2016 at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, Ocala, 910 East Silver Springs Blvd. The service will be held at 10am on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ocala, 511 SE 3rd St, Ocala. Feel free to wear your Orange and Blue to show your support for the Florida Gators and the Florida Kiwanis. Online condolences may be left at www.hiers-baxley.com

Dear Aggie and Family, Sally and I are sorry for your loss of George. He was one of a kind. A fun guy, true gentleman, and a passionate Kiwanian and Gators fan. George and I had fun times together on the Kiwanis International Foundation Board. He was a true asset and treasured resource for all things Kiwanis. He was full of creative ideas to better KIF and KI. You all have been in our prayers. May your faith and fond memories sustain you all in this difficult time.
Sincerely, Ralph and Sally Wilson
