James Ankney Obituary

Ankney, James (Jim) passed peacefully into the Presence of His Savior on Wednesday, November 20, 2013. He was the son of Mae and Milton Ankney. He was born in Sycamore, Ohio on November 1, 1933 but came to Florida when he was three years old. . Jim was in the last graduating class of Orlando High School. He attended the University of Florida but returned home before graduation to join his father and brother, Bill Ankney, in the management of Ankney Mobile Homes, Inc. and Ankney Properites, Inc He enjoyed the fellowship and goodwill of community organizations: Kiwansis, Elks No. 1079, and Touchdown. He was a faithful member of Downtown Baptist Church, and greatly enjoyed chauffeuring the senior adults to all their outings in the Central Florida area on the church bus. Jim had a host of friends, and they enriched each other's lives daily with breakfast at Shannon's Restaurant and mid-morning coffee and lunch at Panera's. Jim was blessed with 58 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Beth) Bryant Ankney who tenderly cared for him in the last months of his life. He was also blessed with a caring family: daughters Cynthia Wojciak (Donnie), St. Augustine; Catherine Newberg (Rick), Winter Springs; Rebecca Yockey (Steve), Orlando, and son James (Jimbo) Ankney, Orlando; and four grandsons, one granddaughter, one great granddaughter and one great grandson. Being a Winter Parker, I remember Jim best as that super-cool Orlando “Fonz”-type guy who often rolled slowly through the lot at Roper's Grill in that low-rider, skirted, 1951 Mercury that bellowed with the rumble of those Smithy mufflers. We'd always sit together at Old Timers meetings.
Emerson said "It's not the length of life, but the depth of life." Jim's life and loves were deep in many respects. Till we meet again.

Jim and I became friends after I joined the South Orlando Kiwanis Club about 10 years ago. I usually sat behind him at the weekly meetings. He was a great person with a wonderful personality. He will certainly be missed. He was one of the rocks of SOKC.
My condolences to the family and loved ones.

Dear Beth, Cindy, Cathy, Becky & Jimbo, Monte and I send our deepest sympathy to you all. We most certainly will miss Jimmy. We have such fun memories of our time together, going on 63 years. Jimmy was a trooper, going thru the tough times with his
knee and not complaining. We will miss his laugh, he loved to joke! Please know we are here for you whenever you need us. Know you and the family are in our thoughts and prayers during this sad time. Much Love, Rose Marie and Monte
