Jim Beech was an inspiration to me as an adaptive physical educator. His students loved him and knew that his whole heart was dedicated to doing what was best for all of his students. He is a legend in the P.E. And recreation fields. He WAS the Big Orange Games! His peers always had respect for his devotion and knowledge. My prayers go out to his family.

Coach Beech helped us start the Gator Invitational Sports Ability Games for physically challenged athletes here in Gainesville. Coach Beech was a quiet, but detemined leader, an inspiration to hundreds, and a dedicated sponsor for physically challenged athletes. I - and all my students (over 25+ years) - will miss his humor and support at the track meets! There are not many coaches like him - his involvement with promoting opportunities for physically challenged athletes will never be forgotten. With heartrfelt thanks -- Claudia Siders

Dearest Carolyn,

I LOVE YOU!!! I just returned home tonight when I heard the news. I am so-o-o-o sad. My heart breaks with yours and the kids! There is so much that he did in his lifetime, where does a person begin to describe him! I believe the biggest and most important thing about him was his HUGE heart! He cared so deeply about so many people. Young, old, mean, nice, handicapped, he like them all. He had such a funny, hilarious wit about him. He could always make someone so angry turn into a teddy bear. That was just one of his many talents. I remember the first time he asked me and Geffie to help him with the BIG ORANGE games. The truth is, that the experience I got out of it influenced me for the rest of my life. I will never forget the look on the children's faces when they would come up to the trophy booth (where Mr. Beech wanted my to help out.) and tell me which event they had just took place in and to put the emblem on their trophy. BIG, HUGE, HAPPY, SMILES. Mr. Beeach was all about the finish line. He didn't care if they finished 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place. He just wanted them to cross the line. To me, he was so sweet and kind. He would always take my side when Geffie was giving me a hard time. And when we played ball at the old Ocoee Softball fields you could always count on him trying to sell you a hot dog or ask you to help "him out" with keeping score or buying candy bars for the handicap children. It was NEVER a chore. But a pure delight. He always kept everyone laughing with a joke or keeping peace between team rivals. He would always say to me when I was up to bat "Get a Hit". You both have been their for me. Carolyn do you remember the baby blankets you made for me when I had Carl Wayne. You and Jim both came over to visit the "little one" and wish us the best. And you both were their for me when Geffie died. I remember when they dedicated the Ocoee Sports complex after Jim. I went and when they announced the dedication I couldn't stop clapping, whistling, and screaming with excitement. He was so deserving of it to be named after him. He had spent hours upon hours for events to take place for the citizens of Ocoee. And not to mention all the after school and summer camps/daycare programs for the kids here in Ocoee. I remember the many, many days that you were at home and he was at the ball field. I can still hear him calling you "Momma". He would say that "Momma was waiting for me at home with supper" and "He had better hurry up and get thier". Your have been so faithful and true to him. I know that you will miss him! I will miss him too. He was an legend!
All My Love!

I remember when i first took Christina to Lake Silver and one of the first things Jim asked me was "have you ever thought about wheelchair sports?" and thus we began a wonderful journey that lasted for all the years christina participated in track and field. My most endearing memory was him having to stand away from the obstacle course when any of "his" kids were competing because it made him so nervous. His touch on all our lives helped us to become who we are today... Students, teachers, parents alike... Everyone was blessed just for having known him. We will miss you Mr Beech!

I remember Mr Beach- I think I called him Mr. Beachball . I went to Forrest Park a " LONG " time ago, I just turned 50 ... I think I drove him crazy, he yelled at me all the time for popping wheelies in my wheel chair. I remember him being a kind fun man .. My prayers go out to all of the family .. Oh yes, he told me at one time that he was going to make me wear a motor cycle helmet if I didn't stop popping wheelies ... So many other things "good: that pop in my head when I think about my days at Forrest Park . I left after 5th grade ..

Jim touched the lives of so many poeple, adults as well as children. He introduced me to adapted PE and I learned so much just from watching him. I was fortunate to work with him at Lake Silver. The family is in my prayers.

I had the honor of working with Mr. Beech when the P.I. Wing of Lake Silver Elementary was built. He was the main contributor to the new playground fashioned for students with disabilities so they could "run, play, climb, go under, over and around" like all other kids. Coach Beech was an inspiration to the students, teachers, parents and anyone who met him. He was an angel on earth and now I know he is in heaven. It was my honor to have him as a friend and colleague; he was one of my all time HEROES. May his family have some peace from the knowledge of his good works and incredible impact on the lives of literally thousands.
