James Carles Obituary

Carles, James , 80, of Orlando, FL., passed away on May 25, 2017. Jim was born in Kane, PA. Jim moved from Kane to Dormont , PA where he spent the majority of his teenage years. At the age of 18, Jim joined the United States Marine Corps where he served our country for six years. He saw deployments in Okinawa, Japan. He spent his life in service of others, first as a Marine, then as a police officer. After his service in the Marines, Jim joined the Orlando Police Department in 1960. Jim dedicated 25 years of service to the citizens of Orlando and had an illustrious career ranging from guarding Presidents, to head of security at OIA and assistant to the chief of police. He retired from Orlando Police Dept., as a LT. in 1985. His years serving the Orlando Police Department were some of the proudest of his life. He spent his retirement enjoying golf at Dubsdread and other local courses at every opportunity. Those of you who were his friend, you were his friend for life and there was not anything that he would not do for you. Jim had five things that he put above all else, his wife Joy, his family, his career as a police officer, golf and his beloved dogs. He had a soft heart for dogs, always found and rescued them and loved them all every day of their lives. He was a man of strong principals who always strived to do the right thing. Jim had a great sense of humor with a boisterous laugh and gave the best hugs. He was a Hero to his wife Joy for forty years. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten. Jim is survived by his wife Joy, sons James, Jr., Stephen and Glen Carles, daughter Charlene St. John, sister Judy Ault, grandsons Joshua, Christopher and Gregory Carles and a host of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, June 3, 2017, 10:00am, at Carey Hand Colonial Funeral Home, 2811 Curry Ford Road, Orlando. 407-898-2561.

I worked on his watch several times. He was a good LT , fair , caring and expected you to do the job. His love of golf was a thing to admired . He treated us like friends but never allowed the lines to get dim. He and Eric Wayer , a sergeant , had a running practical joke battle that was legendary. A man to ride the river with,, Thanks LT for showing me how to do it right,

Lt. Carles was the first lieutenant I worked for as a brand new boot sergeant. Without reservation, he still remains the best lieutenant I ever worked for at the Orlando Police Department. His character was a breathing and living example of "Semper Fi." Hurrah! Rest in peace "loot."
