James Dismuke Obituary

James C. Dismuke passed away on May 14, 2022 at the age of 94. He was born on Aug. 29, 1927 in Cordele, Georgia to Jimmie Clinton Dismuke and Mary Azalee Harvey. He is survived by his second wife Josephine Saez, his children Linda Young (Terry), Mary Jayne Dallaportas (Robert) and Jimmy Dismuke (Kristin), his grandchildren Logan Young (Yanira), Lawson Young and Amanda Brawner, his great granddaughter Sienna Young and his brother John William Dismuke. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 55 years, Jacquelaine Bonner Dismuke.

Jim was a graduate of Georgia Military College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, before embarking on a career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. After marrying Jackie, they spent years relocating to offices all over the east coast, until he became the District Manager of the Central Florida office headquartered in Orlando. His superior managerial skills led to his district becoming one of the most prolific in the nation, with him being awarded the prestigious Tower Trophy.

He retired in 1986, moving to Waynesville, North Carolina where he and his brother developed acreage on Mount Lyn Lowry. There, he built a beautiful mountain home for his family overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. In the late 90's, he moved to Lake Wales and later returned to Orlando. In his remaining years, he met and married Josie.

He was a member of the Orlando Country Club, where he enjoyed his life long love of the game of golf. It began at a young age being a caddy at the local country club in Jacksonville where he taught himself how to play while watching others. Some of his fondest memories were of golf trips with friends.

Even though he graduated from Chapel Hill, he adopted the University of Florida football team and became a loyal member of the Gator Nation. He attended many home and away games, including a SEC Championship and two National Championship games.

Dad loved good food, great times, his favorite cocktail and dear friends and family. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers at this time.

He will be laid to rest in Tifton, Georgia.

I met Nim almost 30 years ago. I was his plumber, he was my customer, but I considered him more of a dear friend. I´m so sorry for your loss. He was a great person who I admired. He will be missed.

I met Jimmy Dismuke about 12 years ago. He called me because of my ad to help with anything technical. Little did I know that a friendship would develop. My first job was to make his wife´s computer run faster and to untangle the mess of wires at her desk. Jimmy would tell people that he was my first customer! Even though that wasn´t technically true, he was one of my 1st and longest lasting customers.
Jimmy would call me, and I would show up, and he always had something for me to set up or get working again or untangle. Most of the time it was a 5-minute fix.
I followed him to 4 different houses in the area, he would buy a house, fix it up, then sell it for a nice profit. Did I mention he was in his middle 80´s while he was doing this? I was enamored with his drive, and his forcefulness.
Over the years, I would stop by to see Jimmy on my way home from work just to talk, have a drink, and discuss anything and everything. He loved talking about Golf, Football, Day Trading his stock, and his life versus my life. He would tell me story after story of when he worked at MetLife. Not a day would go by without a phone call from Jimmy to ask my opinion about something or just to check in.
He would always ask me about my family, and I would tell him about my wife and kids and in the later years my grandkids. He always told me to tell them that he asked about them.
Even though we differed in many ways in life, he respected me, and my decisions.
Jimmy lived a full life, and I am glad I got to spend a few years with him.

I was honored to know Jim both as a client and then a friend. His wonderful sense of humor kept me laughing. I'll never forget the day he brought a gift for me to my Real Estate office in College Park. It was a TALL toilet! Told me once I used it my family would never go back. He was right!
He was a fun loving one of a kind character who will be deeply missed. Sending love and prayers to Josie and his children.
