Jose Luis Romero

ROMERO, JOSE LUIS, 82, of St. Cloud, FL, a former resident of Staten Island, NY and a retired welder and plumber, died on April 28, 2009, Florida Hospital, Rollins St., Orlando, FL. Born in Puerto Rico, he moved to Brooklyn in 1948. He settled in Staten Island in 1988, living there until 2005, when he relocated to St. Cloud. Mr. Romero worked as a welder and plumber at
Seatrain Shipbuilding in
Brooklyn, NY for many years, before taking a position in the maintenance department at JPMorgan Chase in Lower Manhattan, NY. He retired in 1991. Mr. Romero was a self-taught jack of all trades. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, playing guitar and making jewelry. His beaded and pearl bracelets, necklaces and earrings were given as gifts to everyone he met, his family said. "He was a dedicated husband, a loving father and a doting grandfather," his daughters said. "We will miss him and will never forget him." Mr. Romero's wife of 49 years, the former Juanita Ortiz, died in 1999. Surviving are his six daughters, Rosalind Romero-Rivera, Marilyn Perez, Madeline Suazo, Wilma Jimenez,
Deborah Agosto and Wendy Pagan, and six grandchildren. The funeral service will be
Friday at 10AMin the Harmon Home for Funerals, Staten
Island. Burial will follow in
Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
