Joseph Culp Obituary

Culp, Sr, Joseph passed away on July 8, 2014 at his home in Maitland, FL. He was born on June 25, 1932 in Dallas, TX and graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, VA where he took great pride in the education he received. He attended Kenyon College in Ohio, where he played football and lacrosse, graduating with a degree in psychology. His senior year he was selected to the All-American Lacrosse Team (1954) and was inducted into the Kenyon College Athletic Hall of Fame (2005). He graduated from the US Navy OCS and the US Navy Submarine School and was an officer on the USS Cobbler. He worked for IBM and Minute Maid Data Processing before joining Merrill Lynch as a stockbroker. He later joined Dean Witter in Winter Park before retiring in 1997 from Morgan Stanley. Joe was first married to AnJo Joseph of Ohio and had two sons. Later, during his early years in Orlando, he married Doris Asher Peter, daughter of J. Asher and Doris Peter, and together raised five children in College Park. In the 1960's Joe served as president of the Associate Board of the Florida Symphony and on the Board of the Florida Symphony. He was a past member of the Country Club of Orlando and of the Orlando Rotary Club. Joe is predeceased by brother Ralph Culp and sister Shirley Davies. He is survived by his children, Michael Culp, Steven Culp (Barbara Ayers) of Pasadena, CA, Josephine Bunn of Tequesta, FL, Martha Culp of Flat Rock, NC, Rachel Morse (Andrew) of Greenville, SC, Peter Culp (Alicia) and Joseph F. Culp, Jr. both of Orlando, and by his 7 grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service Tuesday, July 15 at 11:00 in the chapel at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, 106 E Church St.

We grieve with you on the loss of your loved one and all SUBVETS and their families have your family in our thoughts and prayers.
