Joye Schafers Obituary

Joye Lang Schafers was born Joye Ellen Lang to William Lang and Zela Brown Lang in Chicago on May 16th 1933. She passed from this life to be with our lord and savior, Jesus, on February 7, 2022. She grew up in Chicago, Illinois; Success, Arkansas; San Diego, California & attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma; where she met the love of her life, Leo J Schafers. They met in 1953 & were married January 25, 1954. They moved to St Louis in late 1954, where she had three children. Where she worked first in customer support for American Airlines & later for Bell Mid-West.

In 1967 the family relocated to Orlando, Florida for her husband's career. As Bell South did not have any open positions, she decided to be a housewife for four years. She returned to the workforce in 1971 for Bell South's competitor Winter Park Telecommunications and worked her way from customer support to special projects director by the time United Telecommunications bought Winter Park Telecommunications. During this time she was also a Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, GS Cookie Depot and GS Tent Depot over the years her children participated in those activities, as well as being a founding member in MWCF (Miniature World of Central Florida) where she served as Show Chairman for the Annual MWCF Show 1 year when her husband's job had him out of town. She & Leo also went back to college at Rollins College in Winter Park. Where she finished her BS in business and assisted Leo to attain his masters. She retired at 57 and devoted herself to assisting in the raising of her grandchildren, reading her books & collecting dollhouse miniatures.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years Leo J Schafers, her three adult children; KarenLynn Geisler, Dave K Schafers Sr., & Michael L Schafers Sr, and her four grandchildren; Nicole Alexis Schafers, Dave K Schafers Jr, Mike L Schafers Jr, & Christina K Schafers.

A celebration of life will be held at Baldwin-Fairchild Conway chapel on Saturday February 19th at 11:30am. Afterwards she will be laid to rest in Glenhaven Memorial Park at 2pm.

In memory of Joye, instead of flowers, she asked that money be sent to St Jude Ministries, St Jude Hospital, or any animal rescue.
