Kevin Kugler Obituary

KUGLER, KEVIN SCOTT, age 36, of Orlando, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2004. He was born on October 24, 1968, to Mel and Norene Kugler in Springfield, MO. Kevin is survived by his wife, Dawn; and children, Kyla and Kaden; his parents, Mel and Norene; his sister, Cheri; and his brother, Terry. Kevin graduated from UCF with a Master's degree in Educational Leadership. He was a teacher and administrator in East Orange County for 10 years. He has been a Children's Pastor at Parkway Baptist Church for the last 3 1/2 years. Kevin loved Jesus, his family, and his church, and spent his life as an example of Christ's love to all who knew him. Kevin believed that "every day is a praise", and even while he had brain cancer, showed us that God is good all the time. A Life Celebration Service will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2005, at 4:30PM, at Parkway Baptist Church, 9000 Lake Underhill Road, Orlando, FL 32825.

Dawn-

I feel blessed that I had the opportunity to have met your husband. Kevin showed grace and and God's love even to those that were not the easiest to do so. I pray that God will embrace and bless you and your children through this time.

Dear Dawn,

Thank you for the courageous effort and devotion keeping us informed by email of Kevin's status.

What a blessing his life has been. Kevin was blessed with a gentle spirit reflecting the compliant heart toward the Master he loved so completely. He will be greatly missed.

We often felt that Kevin was an ideal role model for our son, John. For the last 25+ years, we have stored up many pleasant memories of the two of them and their unique friends as they were growing up. Those memories are all the more precious now.

How blessed you are to be surrounded and supported by the people and organizations that benefited from Kevin's love for Jesus. We will continue to hold you and your family in prayer.

My sincere condolences to the entire Kugler family. I have known Kevin since high school. He was one of the first people I met when my family moved to Florida. Though we have not been in touch for several years, I will treasure the memories of Kevin as a neighbor, a teammate and most importantly a friend. My prayers are with Dawn and the Kugler family and I am saddened by your loss.

I met Kevin & Dawn at college (UCF). We were in the Baptist Campus Ministries (BCM) together, and we were members of the singing/drama ensemble "One Accord" which was a minstry of BCM. Kevin & Dawn had a direct impact on the person I am now. That was the time in my life where my values were challenged the most, and I grew tremendously in my faith. I feel very blessed to have had Kevin in my life. I appreciated his smile which went with him everywhere. He was a math teacher like me. He modeled for me what a Christian math teacher should be -- kind, compassionate and never bending on principles. I will always appreciate his encouragement and the role-model that he was.

I was so sad to hear the news of Kevin's illness and death. I spent the better part of Friday, 1/7/05 trying to get back in touch with my friend Kevin, via an internet search, when I found the notice in the Sentinel. Kevin and I have been friends since elementary school in Englewood. There are many wonderful things I could share about Kevin, but most importantly, I am walking with the Lord today because of Kevin's consistent friendship in my life and seeds that he planted long ago. Many prayers and praises for Dawn and the Kugler family.

Dawn, I don't know if you remember me. We spoke probably a couple of years ago when Kevin was new to his brain tumor journey, because my father had also had a gbm. Over this time, you've been good enough to keep me on your update routing list. My mom, too, has kept on top of things through her friend Merrill at work. Between us, we've often said, "Did you see the latest on Kevin?" and we have never stopped praying for your wonderful family. We were away over the holidays and it is the strangest thing, but one day we were out on the back porch of this amazing log cabin, overlooking a scenic lake, and Kevin somehow came to mind. We both said that when we got back into the swing here at home, we would have to see how he was doing, since we hadn't had an update in a while. Something made me check the Sentinel online tonight, and with my heart in my stomach, I see that your Kevin has lost his earthly battle. Let me say that your spirit and his have been a tremendous inspiration to us, and we have hoped with every hope that he would go the long distance. With so very much dignity, he walked every one of his predestined days. Thank you for allowing us to care about him through your emails. What an amazing man. Someday, Dawn, we pray that a cure will be found. For now, we know that Kevin has found his well-earned peace and joy. All the best to you and your family, from the family of Ed Robinson, gbm 6/99-10/00, Orlando.

My Dear Kugler Family. Kevin fought a good fight and now he is at peace with our Heavenly Father to rejoice in Heaven with all who have gone on before. My love and sympathy are with all. GOD Be with U'all and remember the good times that were shared with him while showing others what it was like to Let His Light Shine for all to See even when he surely knew his time was limited on this earth but his Light for Christ will shine on in all hearts that knew him or knew of his great fight. Dawn, U have been such an inspiration to others as well. Hang in there Dear Girl. I have know Mel and Noreen for years and my heart goes out to U'all. GOD Bless and part of Kevin will always be with U in your children. Love and Prayers, Ann Davis-Beard

I met Kevin once. He came to our office to do a devotional. I was very impressed with his testimony. For the past 3 1/2 years I have prayed and followed Dawn's emails. I am very sorry for this sad news. My prayers are with you and the entire family.

While I never had the chance to meet Kevin or his family face to face, I have known Kevin in a deep personal way as we would pray for him as a family and within the Body of Young Life, a team his father serves on. Kevin's father, shared his son with us during our finance team meetings and we felt joy, hurt, and now celebrate the life that Kevin has in heaven with Jesus!

May Kevin's life be a witness to the joy we ALL may find in life, through our call, through our families, and through our relationship to Jesus Christ.

We had to honor of attending church at Parkway with Kevin, Dawn and their children. The light of Jesus shines through this couple. Their daughter, Kayla is a great performer in the childrens chior and a very sweet girl. Kaden is a beautiful baby. We will miss Kevin, as no-one can take his place. He always had a kind word for us or our daughter and truely lived what he "preached".

We love you Dawn, Kayla and Kaden

Praise God for Kevin's life. What a wonderful example of God's love he was. Jesus said, "I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live;" John 11:25. Our hearts go out to Dawn, Kyla, Kaden, and to Mel and Norene.

We have carried Kevin in our hearts and prayers for the past 3 1/2 years and only met him once - at your wedding! Yet, we feel as if he is a close friend through your informative and honest updates. We know that God is good and everything He does is good - even when we don't fully understand. We will continue to pray for you as you walk through this new season of life. We love you!

Kevin Kugler lived life as he believed; what an awesome testimony. I thoroughly enjoyed our chats in Sunday School and on the softball bench. His quick wit and humor was always a counter-weight to mine. I had the pleasure of attending the first "See You At The Pole" led by Kevin at University High School in 1990, the school's first year. If Kevin touched your life as much as mine, please ask Jesus in your heart...It's what he'd want to know first about you. Plus, you'll get the awesome opportunity to meet this great man when God calls you from earth.

To Kyla and Kaden, Your dad was the best living example of Christ I've known in a long time. To Dawn, Your steadfastness in supporting your husband and God's timing has been nothing less than inspirational. You Go Girl!

Dawn,

In February, 1992 after my 7th grade sunday school class, Kevin and Larry led me to accept Christ as my Lord and Savior. I am now serving as a youth pastor in DeLeon Springs and I only pray that my life will have as much of an impact on teenagers as Kevin's did. I remember many great mission trips with you and Kevin with Crossfire, from the days when we all fought with that puppet stage when you were leading to the time Kevin caught his sleeve on fire doing Tae Kwon Doe outside of Atlanta and lovingly became "Torch". (I have recently followed in his footsteps on that at our own youth retreat :-) He was also a blessing as my EE prayer partner when we met at UHS in the mornings and as the FCA director there. I cannot even begin to imagine all the lives Kevin touched for Christ, even in the few circles that I was blessed to know him in. May God grant you and your family strength and peace in this time of loss. I celebrate his life with you and because of him, look forward to seeing him again in the presence of Christ. God Bless.

I have had the privilege to know Kevin for about 3 1/2 years. In that time I have seen him to be a true example of walking with Christ. When I at times asked him how he was, his reply to me was consistent and true to his testimony he would reply "I am blessed".

I have been forever impacted by Kevin's life.

He will be missed but I rest with the knowledge that he is celebrating with Jesus.

I was not fortunate enough to know Kevin personally and am still looking forward to meeting his family. I was kept informed of his situation by my daughter, Nancy I. I greatly admire the way you were able to use Kevin's illness to show to so many people your strength through Jesus Christ. May God continue to bless you and keep you as you move forward. We will all meet in Heaven if not before.

In a world in moral decay, Kevin Kugler was a beacon for lost souls and led them to Jesus Christ. He was the kind of person you meet that in 20 minutes could leave an impression on you that could last a lifetime. In a society hungry for moral spiritual leaders, he led by example, trusted in God always, and walked the walk. Even through the last difficult years, Kevin was still witnessing and giving praise to God. He and his wife, Dawn, are examples to couples everywhere that if you love one another, love others, love God, and live your life for Jesus, there is nothing that can tear you apart...not even death. I hope to be half the man Kevin was one day. I know I am on the right road because people like Kevin showed me the road in the first place.

Kevin's charismatic leadership and servant attitude led me away from temptations on Friday nights after many hours managing a restaurant, because I knew I needed to be at Tae Kwon Do practice the next morning with my son. I needed to get home (sober) and be with my family before Saturday morning. In fact, in those years of 65+ hour weeks, Tae Kwon Do was about the only bond I had with my son, Alexander. I talked to Kevin about entering him in the program before he was 6 years old because of discipline problems (wonder why) I was having with him. I met and discussed with Kevin and he accepted him and I, just as we were--an uncomfortable, Supersized Father, and a 6 year old with the attention span of a knat and the coordination of rhino. Kevin loved us and accepted us like family. Kevin has a great team in the Chong Do Kwan ministry and they will keep it going...and possibly another father like me (or a mother), and his/her son or daughter will be led to Christ because of this unique ministry.

For those out there that never met Kevin or Dawn or their two children, and you are going through personal issues or even contemplating divorce...your problems pale in comparison. I don't mean to make light of them, but you could learn a lot from the experiences these two went through. I know I did.

For those that doubt why God would "allow this to happen to such a fine young man in the prime of life" we can't pretend to understand, but what if...what if it was just to get your attention..so that you too might Know Him and have a place in Heaven. Would you let Him know? Would the suffering Kevin went through have meaning if it was meant just for you?

I pray that the Lord will provide every need for Dawn, Kyla and Kaden and bring peace and comfort to them, Kevin's parents and family and Dawn's parents and families. I also pray that one dad out there will read this and take his son or daughter to church...and perhaps to a Tae Kwon Do ministry like at Parkway Baptist Church.

Kevin inspired children to witness to others through programs like BAck To School Bowling.

Master Kevin Kugler has left a legacy through the Parkway Baptist Taekwondo. We are proud to have been an influence in his Taekwondo and spiritual life. The passion for souls that The Sell Team carries is alive and well today in the Taekwondo Demonstration teams at Parkway Baptist because Master Kugler has effectively imparted a vision for souls into the black belts he effectively trained.

Prior to one of our tournaments last year, we held a prayer meeting. Master Kugler and many of the Parkway Baptist black belts attended. There was a precious presence of the Holy Spirit. Afterwards, Master Kugler was the first one to come to us and ask if we could do this on a regular basis.

His smile exhibited the love he cherished for our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Master Kugler will be missed greatly, but the passion he had for souls will continue on through the legacy of his wife, Dawn, his children, and his Taekwondo family.

Hello,

Through the forwarding of Dawn's updates by a mutual friend (Nancy I.), I have been fortunate enough to be a part of an amazing walk of faith with this family over the last 3 years.

I first heard of Kevin through my son and his friends while Kevin was an administrator at Liberty Middle School. The boys all thought he was the coolest teacher and the greatest guy.

My family feels sadness in Kevin's passing. His light will be missed. However, we rejoice that he is walking and talking with Jesus. Something he has surely looked forward to for a very long time.

We ask the Father's blessings on those who wait until the time they will see him, again.

Dawn,

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Kayla and Kaden during this time. May the God of all comfort hold you especially close now. Your e-mail updates on Kevin were an inspiration and a blessing to me. When my father died at 60, I asked, "Why Lord?" My answer was the witness for the Lord my Father provided and the many lives he touched for the Lord through his illness. God alone knows the countless lives that have been touched and souls brought to the kingdom through the witness of those suffering terminal illness such as my Dad and your Kevin.

Blessings to you,

Linda

I'm so sorry to hear about Kevin. He was a wonderful person and a joy to be around. As a parent, I was very involved at University High School and that is where I first met Kevin. He was always so happy and positive and a wonderful role model for the students. After my daughter, Britta, graduated, I would see him occasionally when I visited at Parkway. I'm thankful for having known Kevin.

Kevin is one of the finest people I have ever known. He integrated his faith into his daily life, seemingly without effort. He was an excellent assistant principal to work for and a great friend. My life is better for having known Kevin. It was truly a great honor to have Kevin baptize my son, Richard. Kevin will be missed in this world.
