Dear Dr. Blum, It's been a year since you left us and you are still greatly missed. I often think of you with fond memories.

Our hearts are so saddened by the passing of Dr. Blum. We traveled long distances to have him treat our furry family members, Barkley and Zorro. He was such a gentle, kind and giving man. He truely loved what he did and it showed. We will hold dear in our memories the humorous discussions shared with Dr. Blum about our spoiled boys. Our condolences to his family and staff.

When I had to help my 21 year old cat go, Dr. Blum not only performed the procedure outdoors under a tree at my request, he lay down on the ground beside my cat and I as he administered the shot. That kind of caring comes once in a lifetime and I am so honored and grateful that I had the opportunity to know such a loving and gifted man.

Dear Alice and Wonderful Staff,
I have to add just a few comments after visiting the clinic yesterday.
It was time for Toby to visit Alice again, (my 10 year old Honey Bear cat). He's a bit shy to say the least, and the girls deal with him, wonderfully.
It's only the second time I've been to the clinic since the passing of Dr. Blum. And I just have to say, it's just not the same. Not to hear HIS LAUGH, OR GET ONE OF HIS HUGS WITH UPLIFTING WORDS TO MAKE YOU FEEL REALLY HAPPY, is something we all share in our loss. I know we all miss him so much, he was not just our vet, he WAS AN ICON of incredible sensitivity and compassion.
I left yesterday, feeling sad - then in thinking of him and the years going to his clinic - there is peace - and ALWAYS LOVE. Thank you again, Dr. Blum - for all the memories.

It has taken me quite awhile to write in your guest book Dr. Blum. I still get tears in my eyes when I think of you. I look at your passing as a great loss to all that knew you and loved you. My respect for you will never die. I think back to the good things that you did for me and my "puddy tats". All the special care that you gave them and made me feel that my cat was the most beautiful cat in the world. Your hugs, smiles, and wit always made me feel good. I remember one day when I had to bring one of my cats in to see you. I was rushing around so that I would be on time. Somehow I managed to tear my toenail back. When I got to your office you took be in the back, set me on the stool and tended to my toe. What other vet would take the time?
My sympathy goes out to your family and your extended family at the Forest City
Animal Clinic. Thank you, Dr. Blum from the bottom of my heart.

We will miss Dr. B, as our family has always called him! He took care of each and every one of my cats, and did a fine job, too. The last time I had a conversation with him was about my cat, who had swallowed a frog in August of 2008, after blood work and medication, we found she threw it up 2 days after seeing him! But it was a real joy to see him that one last time, and even have a phone conversation later, reassuring me that she "should be all right soon." And now we know that Dr. Blum is "all right," too.

Sincerely, Bob & Linda Jones

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Blum's passing. I feel like my animals will never have a vet with the same love, compassion, thoughtfulness and kindness that we have had for 35 years. When they were too large to put on the table he got down on the floor beside them. What a gentlemen he was. When you said, "Thank you",he always said my pleasure. He made you feel so good about the care you were giving your furry friends. My sympathy and prayers go out to his family and staff.

Just add my name to the hundred others who will write in Dr. Blum's memory.
As I've told many people over the years, I had the best vet in the world! No question about it. Once when I had taken in another stray cat to the clinic, my cousin was with me. Kenny told me later that Dr. Blum was so sincere, so caring, kind of like a "country vet", who used to make house calls. He would get right up on that stainless table and talk to you, while checking your pet. He had such a way with animals too. They knew they were in caring and loving hands. Many times, I have taken strays to Forest City Small Animal Clinic to be spayed. After so many times, Dr. Blum knew that I couldn't afford to really pay the full price. My TeddyBear, a 10 year old HoneyBear cat, developed FUS about 6 years ago and with Dr. Blum's wisdom and help, he will see his 10th birthday in June. Like many others, I think I've been going to Dr. Blum's clinic for about 30 years, give or take. My sympathy goes out to Alice and Ellen, as well as the other girls, and to Dr. Blum's family.
I remember talking to Dr. Blum, about my visit to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary a few years back. I was trying to explain to him, what an awesome, "spiritual" place it was . . . help was given to all animals, mostly there due to abusive situations. I told him how the wind howled through the canyons in Kanub, Utah, and he seemed to really understand the peace and serenity of this wonderful place. He was a most spiritual, caring individual and all who met him, have been blessed from knowing him. I would always leave his clinic, feeling uplifted or better, just by talking to him. I still hear his laugh. You might have to wait a bit sometimes, but you could always be assured of getting personal, undivided attention when you got in that little examining room. And the waiting room . . . people came from all around, supporting his practice. He really made a difference in this world of problems. You just felt better after talking to him.
Things will not be the same, but Dr. Blum's spirit will live on and he will be missed terribly. I am just blessed for having known him.
When it came time for saying goodbye to some of my furry felines over the years, he and his staff were so kind and caring.
And yes, I can see Dr. Blum, surrounded by all his furry friends who preceded him cross over the Rainbow Bridge.
Thanks so very much for all the heartfelt caring over the years.
Deepest sympathy to the family also.

I knew you were very ill but I always told myself that you would get better. You gave my "little girl" Shania such truly loving care. You sat on the floor and clippled her nails and gave her shots. You and she sat side by side on chairs in the waiting room (she always made herself right at home and hopped onto a chair) and talked a little before taking her back for whatever reason she was there. When you learned that she was diabetic, you and the girls were always right there for her. Gosh, for so many weeks we were there every Friday morning for her blood sugar test. We would sit on the wall outside while the girls came out to draw blood. Later you would come out, sit down and talk to us a little and give us her test result. Because of you Shania has lived another year. When we learned she had cataracts, you helped me check out my options..surgery etc. As much as it hurts for me to know that she can no longer see and to wonder what must be going thru her mind as to why she can't, I finally accepted the fact that it is better to at least have her here with me....and she still gets around almost the same as before. She is still my almost constant shadow. Where I go she is not far behind. You have helped my little girl thru so many "boo boo". The first was the lump she had on her neck which caused her to not be able to bark and at one point she was even had trouble getting around. I remember when we took her to see you about this, you took her along to the mailbox so you could observe her walking. She did just fine for you. After running tests this turned out to be a result of mysterious bite...we figured out probably from a snake as Shania would often catch a snake and run around with it dangling from her mouth. I think she liked to hear my scream as I ran into the house. Anyway, we were all just so very gratefull that it was just a bite and not what we had most dreaded...cancer!Then there was the tumor by her tail which had to be removed only to grow back again. Again you removed. Ah, the ear. You made her look like a one horned bull when you inserted a drain tube as she had a "bubble" on tip of her one ear. Shania loved you, she knew you cared. You always thought it funny that as she walked into your exam room, she would automatically take a left and get on the scale. She still does so even though she can't see. (Then there was the time your scale had been sent out for service. Shania did not know what to make of that!) You also took care of our cat Scruffy, but for her it was routine checkups or allergy shots. You never did get to meet Neckface, my granddaughter's kitten. I had talked to you about her but she was not old enough for shots at the time. Since then she has met the girls and Dr. Keene.
You will be truly missed by all of us left behind, visits to your office will never again be quite the same. But I know that you are very busy now with all of your furry friends who went before you...crossing "Rainbow Bridge". I hope the clinic remains the same as it is now, I cannot imagine taking "the girls" anyplace else.

Its hard to say so little about this wonderfull man. He was the most caring and wonderful vet we have ever met. He always had a smile on his face and knew our dogs names as if they were his best friends also. We will miss this awsome person. We offer our condolence to the family. You will be missed by all your clients and the pets you cared so wonderfully for.

Everything everyone has said we feel and more. I have such gratitude for the compassion, care and knowledge you shared. Doing animal rescue I saw other vets turn animals away for lack of funds of the owners, while that is understandable for profit bottom line~ for some owners I know you worked your magic to help every and any animal you had the time and ability to. You looked for affordable solutions instead of going for the biggest and most expensive solution when either would provide the exact same result. The number of animals you saw that were broken up in one way or another from physical injury or abuse and neglect and the kind care you gave them is something that is hard for me to put into words. I remember you coming out to my car once to see a rescued kitten because the office was busy but you took the time to make sure the little one was OK. Another old friend of yours told me a story of how you saved a dog’s eye by sewing it shut to help protect the eye while they administered medication for the next few weeks. After the stitches were removed the eye had healed and the dog was fine- another vet wanted to remove the eye right away for a huge cost and great trauma to the dog. You did what was right with your knowledge and life- The many little things that you did to help others may never be known. For all of the education you shared with others and love I thank you and your entire staff, M.J., Alice and everyone. I know the demands of the patients at times were heavy and not all animals could be saved but when the time came to see them peacefully and painlessly to the next step all of you were there to help end the pain and suffering. God Bless all of you for the care and compassion you have shown and I keep the clinic and all of you in my thoughts now to have the help to continue the work that is so much needed in this community. We are all better for knowing all of you, and as I am crying once again before finishing this I just want to say thank you. The community has lost a great Man and we have lost a kind friend. Love- Little Bit, Peanut Butter, Lina, Daisy and the many others who you saved the lives of, we didn’t want you to go but we hope you are overwhelmed on the other side with all of our old friends who have made that journey. I remember holding my mother’s dog Boscoe’s paw as you were helping him pass peacefully many years ago and you reminded me he is still with us but just in a different form now. I know you are still with all of us but just in that different form.

Dear Dr. Blum,

You were truly one of a kind! I have been taking my countless varied animals to you for over 30 years. You always picked them up and talked to them and let them give you kisses and they knew they could trust you with their care. I remember taking a dog I found injured on my doorstep. The skin on his back flapped up as he had been hit by a car.
Dr. Blum said..."It's not as bad as it looks..it's liked being scalped" and he stitched him and gave me antibiotics and he was soon as good as new. I was always taking in strays and finally on time Dr. Blum said.."You have an invisible S on your forehead that stands for SUCKER" and we laughed. Then when our big guy "Merlin dug under the fence and was hit and had a broken leg, we took him in to the clinic and he would sit down like a donkey and not move..Dr. Blum came out and said "Come on boy and he walked right in with him.
The last time we took a beloved pet to Dr. Blum was when our 2 yr. old pom Annie was dying with a brain tumor..Dr. Blum met us at the office on Saturday to put her to sleep on his day off. He was so caring and compationate hugging us and truly feeling our grief.
I could go on and on...
The only thing that makes me smile now is the visual of Dr. Blum getting to heaven and being mobbed by all the animals he so lovingly healed and helped.
Like Dr. Blum , his office staff are all one of a kind too..very caring and helpful..A special thanks to Alice who baby sat my animals many times.
May God bless the family and give them comfort and peace.
There will never be a better vet and friend than Dr. Blum and I feel so lucky to have known him!!

After taking our many pets to Dr. Blum for close to twenty years I think he was one of the most incredible, loving and happy people I have ever met. I always looked forward to taking our pets to Forest City Animal Clinic, knowing that they would receive the best, most compassionate care available. Our dogs and cats were treated like they were the extra special family members that we thought they were. Dr. Blum will never be forgotten but he will be sorely missed and his family and wonderful staff will be in our thoughts and prayers.

MJ,Larry,Alice and the clinic staff,

We have been so blessed to know your father the 35 years we have lived in Altamonte Springs. Dr. Blum was indeed a special man. From the time he set the broken leg of Dottie's hamster to the time he came in on his day off to personally do a spay and breast cancer surgery on our dog, Sugar, to the support he and Mary gave me when I was studying in the seminary, Dr. Blum was always there when we needed him. We pray that he is now in the loving embrace of Jesus and His Mother, as well as his beloved Mary, and is surrounded by all the pets who are waiting to greet him.

On our first visit 6 years ago we were immediately comfortable with Dr. Blum - we were happy to see our pets were too. He was so compassionate, so gentle & with a sense of humor. Dr. Blum made us feel like we were the "only" patients in the office. Our pets are like our children, & we felt so blessed, so lucky, to have him as our Vet. Our lives will truly feel his absence. He will be missed by us: Patti & Trish & our pets: Sockie, Sookie, Peanuts, Penrose & Bella.

To My Dr. Blum,

The saddest thing that I have heard in along time is of your passing. I was fortunate enough to meet you in 1987 with my first pet PJ and the rest is history. I with all my heart would like to say thank you for all the special love and care you gave to PJ, Precious, Persuasion, Bullet, Samantha, Poppy and Sheeva. We had the best vet in the whole wide world and now our community has lost him and no one on the face of this earth can replace you because of all your special qualities. I will miss you deeply. So I will close with my big hug to you, but this time I can't put my arms around you, but you will always remain in my heart for all you did for me and my family. With all my love and gratitude...Thank you Dr. Blum.

March 19, 2009

To My Dr. Blum,

I can never repay you for all the kindness you showed to all my pets and me. In 1987 I was fortunate enough to meet you with my first pet PJ and from than on we both know the history. You will be missed so much and no one on this earth can ever replace you because you were so special to all of us. I will miss you dearly. But from the bottom of my heart I thank you for everything you did for me, PJ, Precious, Persuasion, Bullet, Samantha, Poppy and Sheeva. You are the greatest. Here is a gigantic hug to you, remember, and thank you. With all my love and my "Pets" love.

Dr.Blum,
You were the best-the best vet, the best and most compassionate person. We used to joke with you that when you retired, we would retire from pets. You left us too soon! We still have a young kitty. For over 30 years, you cared for our numerous kitties and a loved poodle and last a sweet little bichon-Bubbles. Our hearts are very heavy--we feel that we have lost someone so special --like a cherished family member. We will never forget you.

Thank you for all you did for my Gretchen and for me! You will always be remembered!! Enjoy the sweetness of peace!

I had heard that Dr. Blum was a great guy so when we got our little bichon, "Buddy" 14 years ago, we drove across town to see him. I was quite impressed when Dr. Blum hopped right up to sit on the exam table and talk to Buddy, letting him sniff around to feel more comfortable before beginning the examination. This precious routine was surely familiar to all of his smaller furry friends. I have often quoted Dr. Blum's wonderful response one day when I was just mortified! He was carefully holding Buddy to clip his nails (which Buddy never enjoys) when Buddy tinkled all over his pants. I said, "Oh Dr. Blum, I am sooo sorry!" With a smile, he replied, "Don't worry about it, I just say it's that 'warm feeling' you get from veterinary medicine!" Buddy is still with us today and I am sure it is due to the years of great care by Dr. Blum. We now have added a very energetic pup to our family. Trooper has had numerous medical adventures already. Once he grabbed a sharp pencil and charged into the living room where he tripped over the carpet. The point became lodged in the soft pallet of his mouth! Trooper was yelping like crazy. I quickly yanked the pencil out, grabbed a towel and raced with Trooper (who continued to cry in pain) and my first grade son to Dr. Blum's office. Thankfully, we now live close by. We were all three shaking! He saw us quickly and reassured us that Trooper would be fine. Dr. Blum was so calming and didn't even charge us for the emergency visit! We know that Dr. Wight and Dr. Keene will take good care of us in the future... but no one will ever hold the place in our hearts that Dr. Blum has!

Dear Dr. Blum,

I have been so blessed in my life to know an earth bound angel. This person showed me unconditional love and support. He always had a gentle sparkle in his eye and a mischievous smile that seemed to be created just for me. Now I am blessed again to know that he is watching over me, still holding my hand and guiding my way but from a different place. Of course this angel is you. I am honored by your friendship and love you from the bottom of my heart.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Blum for over 30 years. The first time I met him, I could tell what a kind, gentle, loving and compassionate person he was. His office wasn’t fancy, it was “family” and I liked that. He always greeted you with a big smile and a loving hug. Over the years, his staff also became family. I can picture him sitting on the table, taking his hand and scooting the animal up beside him, easing their stress. He never rushed you in and out, it wasn’t about how much money he could make, it was always about doing what was best for your pets. Many times he did not charge me for his services. I have rescued many, many cats over the years and if not for Dr. Blum and his exceptional kindness, I would not have been able to care for them. We have all lost a GREAT friend. I wanted to believe he would be here “forever”. I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family and staff. May God Bless and comfort them. We all have another “angel” in heaven and Dr. Blum is now at peace and reunited with his beloved Mary. I have many wonderful memories that will keep me smiling through all of the tears. Goodbye, Dr. Blum, I will forever miss you but will see you again “over the Rainbow Bridge”.

Dr. Blum, words cannot even express how saddened I am right now. I have told everyone that no one will ever compare to you. Dr. Blum had taken care of my dog since he was a puppy. He is now almost 12 years old. Although I know he is in a better place, I will miss his presence more than anyone can imagine. I know he is in heaven with his wife and with all of the animals that he loved and cared about so much. You will be missed more than anyone will know. Thank you for being such a dedicated and loving veternarian. Your loving and kind work will never be forgotten.

Rest in peace, my friend.

Dr. B was a hero to me. He took care of my dog and cats like every one was his. He cried along with me when my beloved "Sugar" had to be put down. And he did it for free. He was family. I've known that wonderful man for 22 years. He was one of the kindest, most decent people I've ever met. If everyone was like him, the world would be a much better place. What a gentle man. May he find peace with his wife and with our God.

Dr Blum was a very special, kind, loving and gentle man who will be missed by many.
As a vet, he took so much time with each animal and was very caring about their health-not the money-just unsurpassed caring.
He will be missed. I feel like he was a part of the family, even though he was "Just a Vet".
Heavenly Father watch over his and his wife's soul for eternity. And bless those that knew him and will sorely miss him-his family, his wonderful staff and his patients.

As I read the tesimonials to Dr Blum it became apparent that the opinion I formed of him in a short period was ever so true. His gentle nature was self evident & I always had a warm comforting feeling after each meeting or call. My only regret is that I did not get to meet him years ago. He was & will remain one of God's good people watching out for his loved ones from above.

I have known Dr. Blum probably since 1974 and had to have a suffering pekingese put to sleep. He has been my vet and friend ever since. I can't even count how many cats lives he has saved for me. Spunky was hit by a car and left for dead and I rushed him to Dr. Blum, Savannah who was being thrown into air when she was a kitten by dogs, Scruffy who I found in a car dealership parking lot, Maxwell found running on Rock Springs Road and of course Mr. Bill who was at that time a "clinic" cat who some old man tried to kill with a cane all of whom I adopted. They all would have died if it hadn't been for my friend Dr. Blum. He was always there when I needed him and I had the pleasure of helping him get over the sadness of euthanizing two dogs one morning before my appointment with my hug. He had a heart of gold, a loving smile and always greeting you with a warm loving hug. We have truly lost one of the most compassionate human beings I have had the pleasure of knowing. I will miss you deeply. With love and gratitude,

My children & I hold Dr. Blum in special love for his caring compassion when their pet rabbit was gravely ill. My kids were quite young & so attached to their special litter box trained rabbit. All that could be done had been done, and I knew the time was imminent for euthanasia. I helped them make a burial box for Bugsy complete with a decorated blanket and pillow...one that my son did himself - it featured six grey bunnies jumping over flowers. When Dr. Blum asked him about the bunnies, Derek said he didn't want Bugsy to be alone in Heaven. Dr. Blum lovingly laid Bugsy in the box, covered him with the sweet blanket, brought my children into the exam room, holding each of them by the hand, said a prayer over the "sleeping" rabbit, then told them to take him home and give him a good Christian burial. And then told me there would be no charge for his services. I couldn't believe it, but he insisted. He told me he had never seen an animal so lovingly prepared for burial. We have never forgotten his love and compassion. God bless you, Dr. Blum - I know you are wearing a crown of many jewels in Heaven as I write this. You were one of a kind and touched so many lives.
