Lena Marie Akers

AKERS, LENA MARIE (SCHMAELING), 84, of Palm Springs, Florida passed away Friday, September 6, 2003 after having suffered a series of strokes and a blood clot in her brain over the past several weeks. Marie is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, William Everett Akers; her eldest son Steven Everett Akers of Naples, FL; her daughter Janice Barbara (Akers) Hobbs of Palm Springs, FL; and her youngest son Douglas Philip Akers of Gainesville, FL. She has eight grandchildren, Matthew Everett and Brian Steven Akers, Christopher William and Jeffrey Thomas Hobbs, Christie Leigh Lovelock, Mitchell Douglas, Daniel Lewis, and Jenna Marie Akers, and five great grandchildren, Zachary Thomas Hobbs; Brent Everett and Bella Grace Akers, Olivia Paige and Allexa June Akers. Marie was born in Eufaula, Alabama in 1919 and has lived in Florida for the past 47 years. She was a long time active member and beloved Sunday School teacher at North Park Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida for 46 years where she participated in numerous ministries especially to Senior Adults. She was a long time member of the Orlando Garden Club and loved her garden and flowers. Visitation is from 4-6PM on Friday, September 12th at Carey Hand Funeral Homes Garden Chapel, 600 Wilkinson St., Orlando. Memorial service will be held at North Park Baptist Church, 741 N. Mills Avenue, Orlando at 11AM on Saturday, September 13th. Remembrance donations can be forwarded to the Hospice Foundation of America or The Alzheimer Association.
