Lois Carmichael Nolle

Lois Nolle Obituary

NOLLE, LOIS CARMICHAEL Lois was the epitome of a true native Orlandoan and Southern Belle, being born in Orlando on December 1, 1930, the daughter of D.H. and Edna Hoover Carmichael. She attended Concord Elementary School (which became the site of a Pontiac dealership at the corner of W. Colonial Dr. & Hwy 441), Memorial Jr. High (which was located on Rosalind Ave, across the street from the Lake Eola bandshell), and the Orlando High (which is now Howard Middle School), graduating in 1948. Lois married her high school sweetheart, Alton J. Nolle, Jr., while he was in college and she was working as a long-distance telephone operator to support the marriage. From then on she gave her undying, unyielding, and tireless love, devotion and support to her husband and family to come. Lois died on July 20, 2009, at the age of 78 after a courageous fight with Alzheimer's disease.
Lois is survived by her husband of 58 years, son Jeff
(Julie), daughter Kathy Vogt, and son Clint, all of Orlando. She leaves behind granddaughter Stephanie Vogt, grandson Brandon Vogt
(Kathleen), and great-grandson Isaiah Vogt. Lois was a firm believer in being of service to others. Consequently, she was active in many organizations that she felt had worthwhile goals: Community Advisory Board (Pres. 83-84), Orlando Garden Club (Pres 88-89),
Sorosis, Rotary Ann Club (auxiliary to Orlando Rotary - Pres 78-79), Central Florida Baton Assoc. (Pres 67-68), The Council of Arts and Sciences, The Arts Guild (Pres. 80-81), Friends of Leu Gardens, Florida Federation of Garden Clubs (Board Member), College Park Women's Civic Club (Pres. 83-85), Florida Symphony League (Life member), District VII
Wildflower Garden Club (Pres. 97-99), Maitland Association of
Fine Arts, Epsilon Sigma
Omicron of FL. Federation of Women's Club (State Chair 84-86), Gray Ladies (Rock Lake Elem, Robert E. Lee Jr. High, Edgewater High), Florida Landscape Critics Council (Certified Landscape Design Critic by National Council of State
Garden Clubs), Green Thumb Garden Circle (past Pres.,) Civic Theatre of Central Florida (longtime volunteer usher/ticket taker), Hugh O'Brian Youth Foundation aka HOBY (State Committee member, Board of Central FL Seminar, recipient of national award from the General Federation of Women's Clubs for work on HOBY), and PTA President for Lake
Silver Elem, Lee Jr. High (3 times), and Edgewater High (2 times). Lois was a long-time hostess/chaperone for Miss Florida Scholarship Pageants, and served as a judge for many pageants around the state. Also, she was a member of the Board of the YMCA and served as a President of the Y's Menettes, the former women's service club of the YMCA. Most importantly, Lois lived a Christian life in accordance with her worshipping for her entire adult life at Concord Park Methodist Church and College Park United Methodist Church. She had been servicing for many years as president of the LO-HO-CHA
Sunday School class, until
Alzheimer's forced her to retire. Membership in the Central Florida Airstream Unit and the International Caravan Assoc. provided Lois the opportunity to travel worldwide. From
Morroco/Spain to Norway/
Sweden, from Finland/Greece to New Zealand/Fiji, from Wales/Ireland to Germany/
Portugal, and from Australia/Great Britain to France/South Africa, Lois relished in learning the cultures of other countries. Her radiance, vitality, enthusiasm, good humor, and personableness will never be forgotten. She will definitely be missed and remembered by all who ever came in contact with her. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be on Sunday, August 16th at 4pm at College Park United Health Methodist Church, 644 W. Princeton St. Orlando, with a reception following.

Alton & Family,

I was saddened to see that you have lost Lois. I often think of the two of you when I remember our days at OHS and seeing you at the Rollins plays where Tom, Evalon, Don and I always sat in front of you. Too many of our generation are leaving it seems. I will keep you in my prayers.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during these times. What wonderful memories I have of Mrs. Nolle. She was always helping others. I was priviledged to know her through her children, especially Kathy. Kathy and I were majorettes together at Robert E. Lee Jr. High School, were in band together at Lee and Edgewater and then later on as we became adults, our paths crossed again in the Orlando Garden Club. Mrs. Nolle was always there heading up fundraisers, leading organizations, being a person that listened and did so much for so many. She always gave 110% in everything she did to help make our world a better place.
