Mary Swisher Obituary

SWISHER, MARY, Born in Herington, KS on February 11, 1913. Married Bert Lawrence Swisher April 1932, who preceded her in death. She is survived by one son Larry Swisher, one grandson, Alan Swisher, and three great grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda, and Brian; and one sister, Judy McCullough of Citrus Heights, CA. Mary moved from Wichita, KS to Florida in 1986 and is a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Winter Park. Mary was a member of Winter Park Woman's Club, and St. Mary Magdalen Kitchen Band. Mary graduated from Business College in Wichita, KS, and worked for many years for the City of Wichita, and Water Department in payroll accounting. She retired in 1979. In the 1930's before getting married, Mary taught school in an "early day" one room schoolhouse, with grades (1) one through (8) eight. This was quite an experience. There was no plumbing and a stove heated the schoolroom. The teacher had to build the fire in the stove every morning before school; and there were two "outdoor toilets." That was in the 1930's. Since then all rural schools are now consolidated and children are bused to school. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 29, 2005 at 9:30AM, at the St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Winter Park. Visitation will be from 6-8PM on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at the Altamonte Chapel, Baldwin- Fairchild Funeral Home, 994 E. Altamonte Dr., Altamonte Springs, FL, 407-831-2031. www.baldwinfairchild.com.
