Michael Shelley Obituary

SHELLEY, MICHAEL KENNETH "MIKE", died on Friday, June 29, at home in Heathrow, FL, in his 85th year. Mike was born April 30, 1928, in Berlin, Germany, and immigrated to Canada with his family via London, England, in 1939. He grew up in Toronto, graduated from the University of Toronto, and continued his education at the University of Wisconsin receiving an MS in electrical engineering. He had a long and productive career in sales and management in medical electronics in both Canada and the US. He satisfied his entrepreneurial spirit by starting two small businesses, one in Buffalo, NY, and one in Greenville, NC, before retirement. Mike was proud of his children and grandchildren, enjoying their activities and accomplishments even when separated by many miles. Introduced to motorcycles by his sons when he was 60, Mike travelled cross-county and around the Great Lakes, and continued riding wherever and whenever he could for the next 22 years. His enthusiasm for meeting new people and seeing new places found a perfect outlet in adventure traveling with multiple trips to Australia and exotic locations around the globe, camera in hand. He had a contagious sense of humor, and kept it even in his last difficult days. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dr. Diane Jacobs, of Heathrow, FL; his children and grandchildren Stephen (Wendy),
Lisa & Michael of Melbourne, Australia; David (Mary), Elizabeth &
Kevin of Georgetown, Ontario; and Karen Brotherhood (John) of Connecticut, USA; his brother Robert (Jessica); nephews Gardiner and Brian Shelley and their children, Toronto; sister-in-law Mary Warner Smith and family all of Canada. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald (1945); and his first wife Dr. Elizabeth McCree (1974). Michael's ashes will be interred in the family plot, Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Comforter (480 W. Central Parkway, Altamonte Springs, FL) in gratitude for their exceptional assistance and care.

Mike will be greatly missed. Fortunately, I have many pleasant memories of my years working with him.

We had the pleasure of meeting Mike when he and Diane came over to our house for dinner shortly after I began working for Diane. I was newly married and newly installed in my husband's house which, I came to find out during that dinner, was ill equipped for entertaining!! But Diane and Mike were great and rolled with the punches - even when the sofa almost swallowed Mike. Our thoughts are with you Diane. And just to let you know - Dennis is now working at Hospice.
