Igou, Phillip PhilPhillip N. Igou Phil Igou led a life rich in family, friends, community and laughter before passing away May 29 at home. Born in Kansas City, MO July 8, 1919, he was raised in Kissimmee and attended high school at The Bolles Military Academy and the University of Florida. At UF he was a member of the ATO fraternity and captain of the UF boxing team. In 1941 he joined the USAF and completed pilot training in Columbus, Mississippi in 1942 where he met his future wife, Nell Ferris Wood. They married before he went into active service in the Asiatic Pacific Theater air offensive as a B29 pilot and Major. Phil returned to Central Florida to join his family business, Mills & Nebraska Lumber Company, and raise his family. He led a life of integrity and service to his family, employees and the community. Phil served as chair for the Selective Service Board, Optimist Club, Kiwanis Club, United Appeal (United Way), Orlando Chamber, Central Florida Fair and local and state Lumber Dealers associations. He founded Little League in Central Florida and served as first president. He was a founder and first Vestry Chair of St. Michaels Episcopal Church and served on the boards of the YMCA and Orlando Bank & Trust. A lifetime of playing tennis, Phil won the regional Over 85 tennis championship at 86. After his wife Nell died in 2006, he married Lucy R. McLeod and died peacefully in her loving arms. Phil was preceded in death by his first wife Nell W. Igou, his son Phillip "Buzzy" N. Igou, Jr., his daughter Carolyn "Sissy" DuBois, his wife Nell W. Igou. He is survived by his wife Lucy Igou, daughter Ellen Hamilton, son Steven "Woody" Igou, daughter Doris "Dori" Madison, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 7 at 10:30 at St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 2499 N. Westmoreland Drive, Orlando 32804. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to St. Michael's Church and comments made to the family guestbook at www.baldwinfairchild.com

Mr. Igou was such a pleasure to work for. I will always admire his approach to any situation that came about. His nickname for my dad and myself was Edderd. Anytime I had a problem I would go to him with it and he would say" Edderd what do you think we should do about this" and no matter what solution I came up with he always agreed to it. He would take care of it and it was a done deal. I have many fond memories of growing up around the Mills & Nebraska families. All the food fun and games at the summer picnics, Watching Bob Horne hitting softballs so far that they would go into the river and he would laugh every time someone was suckered into going in and getting them back. Playing the Games with Woody and Dori. M & N was never the same after Mr. Igou left but his impressions will always be with me, And I cant thank him enough for that. I am sorry that I just found out about his passing and my condolences are with the family.

Mr. Igou, as I knew him, was a very kind man who loved his family...and enjoyed "life". My father, Edwin Norris, worked with him at Mills & Nebraska for dozens of years. I loved their company picnics. While we competed in the burlap bag sack races and egg tosses, he would walk around making sure everyone was having a good time. And, I remember as a little girl visiting the lumberyard, playing in the dog houses and forts lined up along Mills. Mr. Igou never complained about us running around the property. I saw him several years ago at Helen Chase's memorial. He was the same kind, charming, engaging man as always.

Dear Ellen, Dori, and Steve, please accept my deepest sympathies. You were indeed fortunate in having such wonderful parents. Recall having many great times in your home--pillow "fights" with Sissy, et. al. Am still very sad that she is no longer with us... Your Father and Mother were always very kind to me over the years. Can still recall the "Indian Fighting" trick your Father taught me...Had the pleasure of playing Poker with your parents during a party hosted by Judy Draper in 2000. Your Dad was the "big winner!". Mr. Igou I remember growing up with! He only lived just a block over behind where I grew up in Orlando. His son Woody was one of my best friends since I was a small child and his sister Dori also! He was a very fine man amd always had time for all the kids in the neighborhood. He and his wife Nell always made room for all of us kids in his back-yard even when Woody and I cut down all thei Banana Trees after seeing the "Davey Tree Men" at work. A few years later his back yard was gone in favor of a very large Swimming Pool which "all of us kids" enjoyed very much also!!! I went to church with his family and Woody at St. Michaels when I was younger and still remember Woody and I's first communion together! Father Day was very kind to us there. Mr. Igou was a very fine man and was well respected by all! I will miss him as a friend and a role model, Thank you Mr.Igou!
