RICHARD HOFFMAN Obituary
MICHAEL, age 65, died July 16 in Apopka, FL after a long and valiant fight with lung cancer. Rich was born in Jersey City, NJ and was the sixth of eight children born to Mary and Henry Hoffman. He was raised in Rumson, NJ and graduated Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School in 1964. After high school he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. Following his military service he returned to Rumson and joined the police department. He retired as a Lieutenant in 1995 after 25 years of service. After retirement he and Barb moved to Apopka, FL. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 44 years; his brothers, George (Faye), Robert (Jane), Joseph (Lynn); and sister, Grace (Arnold); Heidi, his "4 legged girl", along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; brothers, Hank and Walter; and sister, Betty. During his retirement years he enjoyed cheering on his beloved Giants, swimming, gardening, as well as spending quality time with his good friends playing golf. The family would like to express their gratitude to his physicians, Dr. Raul Castillo, Dr. Jorge Hernandez and others, the staff of Florida Hospital, Altamonte Springs and Hospice of the Comforter. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11 AM at the Loomis Family

Barbara, John and I are so very sorry for your loss. I just happen to be looking at a Rumson Wrecks picture of us on the slides and remember the fun and laughs that we had with you and Richie. You are both good friends. He will be missed.

Barb, Nancy and I are so sorry for your loss. I enjoyed the years I spent working with Richie and he taught me alot. I remember when I was a young patrolman and could'nt afford a hotel room you and Richie were kind enough to offer us your home so we could take our kids to Disney.. Dear Barbara
Although time has passed since we last saw each other, you, Richie and all our family are always in my prayers.
I was proud to call Rich my cousin, friend and brother officer.
I would be hard pressed to think of a life more spent in such a noble way.
Rich's life calling was to defended and protect his country, community and family.
God bless him and all that will miss him so dearly....

My condolences to the family. I remember growing up in Rumson with the entire Hoffman family. Rich was mentioned a couple months ago at my brothers funeral as they served together on the PD. Rich was always a favorite of my mom.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember meeting Richie when I was a child at my parent's house (Patti & Carl Meyer). Then knowing him professionally through work when I was at Little Silver PD. Barb and Family, Richie was a true friend and brother officer. Had many a good times with him on duty and playing fireman softball.
