Robert Butterfield Obituary

BUTTERFIELD, SR., ROBERT
LATTA,
passed away quietly on March 1, 2011, due to complications following open heart surgery in early 2010, and was received into Glory by his Lord and Savior. He was surrounded by his family. He was born in Huntington, WV, on Oct. 14, 1931, to Frank Melvin
Butterfield and Bena Latta
Butterfield. He lived in Paducah, KY, until 1946, when the family moved to Orlando, FL. He graduated from the University of Florida, and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He returned to Orlando following service in the US Army, and married Barbara West, of Lakeland, FL, on Aug. 17, 1957. He joined Butterfield & Company as an independent adjuster, subsequently becoming a risk manager with Orlando Regional Medical Center (now Orlando Health), where he worked until his retirement. His life was centered on his family and his faith. He was an organizing member of Orangewood Presbyterian Church and a founder of Orangewood Christian School. He served many years as Chairman of the Edgewood Boys Ranch Board, as an elder in Orangewood Presbyterian Church and St Paul's Presbyterian (PCA), and on the Board of Trustees of Covenant College - giving tirelessly of his time, energy and guidance.. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and maintained many lifelong friendships. He will be remembered most of all for his faith, kindness, selflessness and sense of humor, which brought joy and encouragement to all those fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his wife, Barbara
Butterfield; sons Robert (Gwynn) L. Butterfield Jr. (Lakeland, FL), Ben Butterfield (Los Altos, CA); daughters Mary Beth (Todd) Kobrin and Meg (Jason) Mages (Orlando); nine grandchildren, Katy Roberts, Robert Butterfield III, Emily
Butterfield, Samantha Butterfield, Mandi Johnson, Joshua Kobrin, William Kobrin, Jonathan Mages and Anna Mages; and five great- grandchildren; sister Sue Whittelsey (Opelika, AL) and brother Frank Butterfield (Orange Park, FL). Funeral services and a celebration of his life is scheduled for 12 p.m., Fri., March 4, at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church PCA, 4917 Eli Street, Orlando, FL 32804, with a reception following. All family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made payable to: Autism Speaks (Memo: Robert L.

What an awesome man of God Bob was. He was one of our first Bible teachers at Orangewood and one of the best. May God comfort you in the joy of knowing Bob is with his Lord. He taught us so many truths as we are sure he filled you with.
