Robert "Bob" Elrod

1926 - 2017

Elrod, Robert Bobwas born March 15, 1926 in Henryville, Indiana to Stephen Bruce Elrod and Mildred (Betty) Bartholomew Elrod. His early years were spent in West Lafayette Indiana. During World War II he was a cadet in the Army Air Corps pilot training program when the war ended. He graduated from Purdue University with a BS degree in Science. He married Jean McAllister in 1951. He has a daughter Deborah Ann Jackson of York, PA, a son Thomas Edward Elrod of Naples, FL, two grandsons, three granddaughters, and a great grandson. He was active in Republican politics. He was elected to two terms in the Florida House of Representatives and two terms in the Florida Senate. In the Senate he was the sponsor of the first enabling legislation to establish Walt Disney World. He ran for Congress in 1968 and for Lt. Governor in 1970. He was also active in Real Estate, serving as President of Windermere Realty, President of the Orlando Board of Realtors, President of the Florida Association of Realtors, and President of the National Association of Realtors. He was one of the founders of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension. A Celebration of Life will be held on January13, 2018 at 2pm at the Church of the Ascension, 4950 S. Apopka Vineland Rd., Orlando. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ascension Building Fund.
