Stephanie Whitaker Obituary

WHITAKER, STEPHANIE L., 38, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 9, 2006 after a long illness with her loving parents at her side. She is survived by her mother and father, Ken and Barbara Whitaker of Winter Garden, her brother, Todd Whitaker of Riverview, FL and her faithful cat, Sara. She is also survived by her grandparents, Amos (91) and Mildred (89) Whitaker of Orange, MA and several uncles, aunts and cousins. She was born in Hartford, CT on September 22, 1967. After moving to Orlando in 1978, she graduated with honors from Boone High School in June, 1985. Stephanie continued her studies at the University of Florida where she received a BS degree in Nursing in May, 1989 and became a Registered Nurse. During her four years at UF, her love was singing with the Maranatha Choir, a music ministry at the University United Methodist Church and Student Center. The highlight of this time was performing with the choir in St. Louis, MO at the United Methodist Church World Congress. Stephanie continued her education and earned a Masters of Science Degree as a Nurse Practitioner with the OF program in Orlando. Then she further advanced her career and became a Certified Diabetes Educator. Stephanie's true love in the nursing field was Home Health Care. She worked in this area for many years and was a very caring professional. While treating her patients, she also took time to educate them and their caregivers in Diabetes fundamentals. She belonged to several professional organizations and published articles in medical journals. She was pro-active in her own treatment by extensively researching all related data on ovarian cancer and attending several national conferences to further obtain treatment expertise. She conferred with her doctor, Hannah Ortiz on these findings and together they planned her treatment. Stephanie was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, was an avid reader and loved to do counted cross stitch for herself and her friends. Her friends were numerous locally and across the country and were her support group with her parents. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 4:30PM at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 4851 South Apopka-Vineland Rd., Orlando, FL, officiated by Rev. Beth Farabee. A reception for family and friends will follow in the church Rotunda. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Stephanie L. Whitaker Memorial Fund at St. Luke's United Methodist Church or the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, 910 17th Street, NW, Suite 413, Washington, DC 20006. Arrangements by Dove Funeral Home, 4310 Curry Ford Rd., Orlando, 407-851-1983.

Ken,

I read Stephanie's obituary today after coming back from vacation. There is nothing that I can say that can fill the void that you feel.

However, while I know that you are dealing with your grief knowing that you will not see Stephanie for the rest of your lives on earth, you and your wife are consoled by the knowledge that she is with our Lord because of her faith in Jesus Christ. Continue to put your trust in the God of the Bible and lean on your fellow Christians to help you make it through this most difficult time.

God bless you and your family.

Dear Ken, Barbara and Todd.

How sad I am to hear of Stephanie's passing. All the care, love and compassion Stephanie gave so freely to others, such a wonderful life and she lived it all to the Glory of God. She now knows the complete peace of our Loving God and such great love and joy now in the Master's Arms. My prayers are now that God will comfort you in this great loss. With care and sympathy, cathy e

Sorry to hear about your loss. I sat next to Stephanie for much of the time that we worked together at DSP and during her illness, she kept us updated on how she was doing via her emails. I know she had a will to live but also a great peace with God to carry her through. She was a very caring & tenderhearted person. We all loved her and will miss her.

Ken,

Although I never met your daughter I'm certain she was as kind and thoughtful a person as her father. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I share your pain. Believe that she is in a better place now and that she will be remembered by many.

Dear Ken, Barbara, and Todd, I had the wonderful experience of getting to know Stepanie while working with her for 3 1/2 years at DSP. She was always a pleasant person to be around and genuinely sweet. She has been in my prayers for quite a long time as she has struggled with her illness. I am so sorry for your loss. You are all in my prayers. I pray God will give you peace which passes all understanding. God bless each of you.

Dear Ken and Barbara,

Stephanie and you have been a real inspiration to me. Your stength, perseverance and faith during these past 21/2 years revealed the true spirit of what is best in God's life for us through the best and the worst of times. May Stephanie's love of life and nursing be her legacy and know my life has been enriched through her. May God bless you and comfort you always.
