Steve Holbrook Obituary
HOLBROOK, STEVE, (JESSE STEPHEN), age 56. He was the founder and President of Holbrook Construction Co., Inc. a local General Contracting Firm providing services for public and private clients. Mr. Holbrook was born December 5, 1946 in Lexington, KY, moved to Orlando with his parents in 1952 and died May 14, 2003 in Orlando, FL. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church-Downtown Orlando, and a past member of the University Club of Orlando, the Citrus Club, Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternity, Sigma Lambda Chi Construction Scholastic Honorary fraternity and many other organizations. Mr. Holbrook graduated Edgewater High School in 1965 and Mercer University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Corps of Engineers. Upon separation from the service, Mr. Holbrook returned to school at the University of Florida using the GI bill and received the degree of Bachelor of Building Construction. He then again left Florida to work with two companies in Alabama, where he met his wife. In 1980 he left Alabama to return to Florida and work for Frank J. Rooney, Inc. in Fort Lauderdale. In 1982, Mr. Holbrook partnered with an old friend from his days in Alabama and co-owned a new firm in Poca Raton, FL, titled Boyken & Associates of Florida, a construction management and consulting firm. He ran Boyken & Associates of Florida as partner and President until 1989. In 1990, Mr. Holbrook activated Holbrook Construction Company and worked there for the remainder of his career. Mr. Holbrook was a sponsor of numerous SAY baseball teams (co-coaching for three seasons) and a Conway football team. Mr. Holbrook is survived by his wife Charlie (Charlynn) Holbrook of Orlando; two sons, John Holbrook, attending school in Gainesville, Brian Sudduth of Orlando; mother, Ruth Holbrook of Orlando; brother Dr. William B. Holbrook of Floral City, FL and sister Ruth Anne Novak of Dallas, TX. Services will be held Saturday, May 17 at 10AM at First United Methodist Church-Downtown Orlando with interment at Woodlawn. The family will receive friends at CAREY HAND COLONIAL FUNERAL HOME, 2811 Curry Ford Rd., Orlando, Friday, May 16 from 6-8PM.
