Carol T. Gibson, age 95, of Oshkosh died at Ascension Mercy on May 11, 2025 with children by her side. Born April 19, 1930 in Oshkosh to Louis & Theresa (Jaworski) Shilobrit, the second of four children. Carol attended St. Vincent Catholic Grade School and graduated from Oshkosh H.S. in 1948. She received a BS degree from UW Madison in 1952 and worked at Dodge County Welfare Dept. 1952-55, as a child welfare worker. She married Robert D. Gibson in 1954. Carol joined Winnebago County Social Services in 1956. After 11 years of temporary retirement and five children she returned to WCSS and Parkview Health Center in 1970. At age 50 Carol obtained her Master's Degree from UWO and state of WI AODA certification. She worked at WMHI Gemini Unit from 1988-95 as an AODA social worker. She developed many strong friendships through her employment and enjoyed her work immensely.
Carol was a member of St. Raphael's Church, former member of St. Peters, and active in Parish Activities. After retirement she enjoyed many creative pursuits, including: gardening, ceramics, sewing and quilting. She joined the Christ Child Society in 1997 at St. Raphael's. Along with friends she completed hundreds of crib quilts and receiving blankets for needy families of newborns. She was a member of Lakeside Quilters and past treasurer. Her greatest joy was in making quilts for babies, her loving family, friends and donations to worthy causes. She was also a long-time member of "The Writer's Group".
Carol is survived by her children Diane M. Reinke, Julie M. Gibson, and David R. Gibson, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Robert D. Gibson 1997, brother Alex (Barb), Louis Jr. (Delores "Dee") and Leonard (Adeline) Shilobrit, 3 sons: Daniel, James, and John and best friend Jeanne McCabe.
Our beloved mother had an exceedingly generous heart, offering to sew her niece a quilt the day of her death. She strived to pass on her strong faith and belief in God to her children and grandchildren. She prayed the rosary and watched the mass daily. She nurtured many strong friendships throughout her life and will be greatly missed. We hold on to our countless wonderful memories of her.
Visitation for Carol will be held at St. Raphael's on May 28 from 10:30-12, mass at Noon. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages masses to be offered in her name.
