David Faust Obituary

David L. Faust, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 1, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by loved ones in the ICU at Ascension Mercy Hospital.

David was born in Oshkosh in 1938 to the late Arthur and Cecilia Faust. On April 4, 1964, he married Patricia M. Lautenschlager, and together they shared 60 wonderful years. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Dave proudly served his country as an Expert Marksman at the height of the Cuban Missle Crisis. After serving his country honorably and proudly, Dave became a dedicated Master Tile Setter.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Patty Faust of Oshkosh; his three children: Barbara Goyke (former son-in-law Michael) of Oshkosh, Karen Hietanen (Craig) of St. Michael, MN, and Michael Faust (Jeni) of Oshkosh; and his three cherished grandchildren: Gretchen Goyke-Emerson (Dustin), Matthew Faust (Cassie), and Mark Faust (Shyann), all of Oshkosh. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first great-grandchild, expected in March 2025. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Faust; sister-in-law, Helen Faust; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Don Faust (wife Inge) and Jim Faust; two sisters-in-law; Bev Faust, Marlene Faust, and his nephew, Edward Faust.

Dave had a deep love and respect for nature, a passion he shared with his children and grandchildren. He created lasting memories fishing, deer hunting, and trapping, and instilled in them an appreciation for the outdoors. Dave and Patty enjoyed spending time on their son's land walking, gathering hickory nuts, and watching for deer. A skilled cribbage player and solitaire master, Dave also found joy in reading the Bible and his daily devotions.

The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to Gretchen, who lovingly served as Dave's personal nurse, ensuring he was comfortable every step of the way. They also wish to thank the EMT crew, fire department, Father Ben, the nursing staff at Mercy Hospital, the staff at the Michael D. Wachtel Cancer Center, Laura RN from the cancer center, Karen RN from the ICU, and especially Dr. Heraly, who Dave acknowledged by saying, "You gave it your best shot."

Visitation and funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 18th, at Fiss & Bills-Poklasny Funeral Home, 865 S. Westhaven Drive, Oshkosh, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 6:15 p.m. Burial with full military honors will take place in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, Dave requested that donations be made to your favorite charity

In the late '60's I enjoyed working with Dave as part of the BYCO crew out of Horicon. He always had something interesting to say. Please accept my condolences.
