Doris M. Hergert

1922 - 2024

Doris M. Hergert, age 102, passed away at The Courtyard in Oshkosh on the morning of Wednesday, 4 December 2024. She was born to the late Arthur and Martha (Juedes) Baumgartner on August 27, 1922, in Oshkosh.

Doris was baptized, confirmed, and married at Trinity Lutheran church and was a lifelong member. She lived at the same address on Harney St. her entire life where many of her neighbors also became friends. She attended Washington School through 8th grade, and then Oshkosh High School. Doris attended Oshkosh Business College and, upon graduation, worked at Miles Kimball Company as a receptionist for 8 years. Her husband Wally and son Steve also worked there. Doris worked for a time for the City of Oshkosh and also various attorneys. She later worked at Riverside Cemetery as a secretary.

Doris was a member of the Campfire Girls and spent a good many years at their camp. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 75 years and held several offices such as Secretary and Historian. As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church Doris was President of the Ladies Aid.

Doris was very proud of, and enjoyed working in, her flower garden with a large assortment of roses, irises, and peonies, as well as her vegetable garden. She often mentioned the beautiful red maple tree in her backyard that her mother had given her and her husband for their first wedding anniversary so that they would always remember her. Doris also liked to mention driving her son's Corvette and the looks she would get from other drivers.

Over her lifetime she owned and Irish setter and a beagle, both "loveable characters", and a "special" dog, Ben, who kept her company while at The Courtyard.

Many thanks to Pastor Pemberton for the close relationship he developed with Doris the past few years, she always looked forward to his visits. Friends of Doris would like to thank the staff at The Courtyard and St. Croix Hospice for comforting her during her final days.

In addition to her parents Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, and her son Steven.

A service for Doris will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church (370 Bowen Street) on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 1pm. Rev. James Pemberton will be officiating. A time of visitation will take place from 12pm until the time of service.
