Robert Springborn Obituary

Robert George Springborn, age 92, passed away on January 4, 2025, at Lakeshore Manor with his children by his side. Robert was the second of seven children born to the late George and Mildred (Johnson) Springborn on February 3, 1932, in Winchester, Wisconsin. Robert graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1950 and attended the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh for one year. During his time in high school and college, he enjoyed playing football at the team's center. Robert was joined in marriage to Ruth Wojahn on May 16, 1953, at Grace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh and they were married for 66 years until the time of her passing in 2019.

Robert served his country and the Army National Guard for several years, being stationed at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin, Fort Saylor in Minnesota, and Fort Lewis in Washington during the Berlin crisis. He spent his career working for Paine Lumber, Morgan Doors, and Georgia Pacific before purchasing part of W. W. Electric Motors in Oshkosh before retiring in 1998. Bob loved music, especially polka music, big band, and hymns. Bob could be found in his garage, listening to his radio working on a project or picking hickory nuts to give to friends, family, and neighbors.

Serving his church was a big part of his life, Bob was president of AAL branch 6 for many years, church council member, usher, and on Monday nights, money-counting team captain for many years. During his retirement, He and Ruth enjoyed going to casino trips and playing dominoes with good friends, Don and Barbara Williams. Bob played cribbage tournaments and enjoyed bowling in the Lutheran league at T&O Lanes and the Tuesday afternoon, senior league at Shoreview Lane. He loved spending time with his family, whether it was going to eat on Saturday night, attending a sporting event, or family get together. Labrador retrievers play the big role in his life and Bob owned seven during his lifetime. At first, they were hunting dogs, but later his dogs were his companions and walking buddies. His last companion was a little terrier mix named that Ladie, who he adopted through a local rescue.

Bob is survived by his son, Tom (Kathy) Springborn, and Carol (Terry) Beck; grandchildren, Craig (Katie), Chad, Terrence "TJ" (Carley), Zachary (Aalyha), Amanda, and Annie Beck, Katie Anders, Kerri (Kris) Brodale, and five great grandchildren; Cole Anders, Ryan, Addison, Colton, and Terrance (Trey) Beck; sisters, Jackie Parthie, and Joanne Kunde; brother-in-law, Robert (Karen) Wojahn. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral and Christian burial for Robert will be held at Grace Lutheran Church (913 Nebraska St., Oshkosh) on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at noon. Reverend Colin Rieke will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of service. A burial will take place at Lake Memorial Park.

Memorials will be established with Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The family would like to Mercy Hospital in the compassionate staff at Lakeshore Manor for their loving care of Bob.
