Scott Spiller Obituary

Scott Louis Spiller, aged 72, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2024 surrounded by his family and loved ones at his home in Oshkosh, WI. He was born on March 3, 1951 in Wood River, IL to the late Leo and Patricia (Moroni) Spiller.

Scott graduated from Roxana High School, received his BA majoring in Political Science from Principia College in Elsah, IL and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. Scott began his esteemed career in private practice and then transitioned to corporate law at Winchester Corporation in East Alton, IL. Scott then found his permanent ""work home"" at Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon, WI where he served for 30 years before retiring in 2016. He was proud to hold the titles of Chief Legal Officer, VP of Human Resources and Corporate Secretary.

Scott volunteered and served many causes near to his heart through the years including serving as a member of the Boy Scouts Piasa Bird Council Board and as the Bay-Lakes Council Commissioner for several years. He also served on the Principia Committee of 70 and the Board of Trustees for Ripon College. Scott coached youth football and basketball and loved the time spent with his children and helping others.

Scott was a devout Christian Scientist and a loving father. He found joy and fulfillment in sharing his life experiences and guiding others toward their goals. His strong, confident, kind and strategic nature allowed him to connect with people, making him a cherished friend and mentor. Scott is survived by his precious children: Michael Spiller and Lauren Spiller; sister Susan Mayes; niece and nephew Brittany Mayes and Colton Mayes and numerous other loved ones.

A Celebration of Life to honor his memory will be held on June 8, 2024 at The Waters in Oshkosh. Feel free to stop by anytime between 2:00-5:00 pm. This will allow all who knew him the opportunity to come together, share stories, and find comfort in one another's company! In lieu of flowers, Scott's family is requesting donations be made to the Boy Scouts (Bay-Lakes Council) and Girl Scouts of America (Northwestern Great Lakes).

I met Scott in the Fourth grade at Rosewood Heights Elementary School and Scott and I were friends ever since. We played basketball, football, baseball, rode bikes and "hung out" through grade school. We became even closer friends in high school where we would see each other every school day and every weekend as Scott lived down the street from me. Scott´s dad drove an old small red two-door car and he would pick us up after school. There may have been as many as four of us, but we all piled in and cut up with Scott´s dad as he drove us home. It allowed all of us to bond with Scott´s dad, especially Scott. Scott had a basement bedroom in his house where we would listen to records and talk. One of Scott´s favorite songs was "The Pusher" by Steppenwolf, which he would turn up as loud as he could. Then, even though Scott never swore or used bad language, when it got to the line "God damn the pusher man" Scott would scream it as loud as he could and we would then both laugh hysterically. Scott´s mom had a pink Oldsmobile, which was a nice car with a big engine and his mom would actually let him take it on a Friday night and a bunch of us would drive around Roxana and Wood River being wild, which if you knew us you would realize how tame us being wild actually was! Scott was someone who you could rely on and help you when needed. Scott never drank alcohol, but he would take care of me when I drank too much. Scott and I remained friends after high school and throughout our adult lives. I was able to talk with Scott the day before his death and let him know how much he meant to me. He was one of my best friends in life. I loved Scotty.

I couldn't possibly recount all the office visits I had with Scott. As my boss, they were many. There was not one time that I was bothered walking into his office, even if it involved a problem with the airplane. He always honored me by saying, " I don't have to worry about you, you know what you're doing and that makes it easy on me." I truly believe he enjoyed "hangar flying and working on some wild cock-eyed plan".
Post retirement there were several times we hooked up for lunch, but later on, not so easy. I will miss our conversations and his candor.
Rest in Peace my friend.

Scott was a great friend and business associate of mine for many years at Alliance Laundry. He brought his special insight and guidance to my everyday dealings. I loved Scott like a brother and so appreciated his guidance and help in advancing my career. May condolences to his family for his loss. He is with our Holy Father now and no one is more deserving of that ending.

Everyone who knew Scott in college has special memories of him. He was a gentleman and helped us all to learn what was important in life and how to laugh at the rest. The more we got to know him, the better we were. We are so grateful for his life.
