Ann's brothers were John Henry Jr. (Sonny), Harry Thomas (Tom), Coburn William (Cobe), and Herbert Stanley. Ann attended elementary school in Ottawa and Greenwood. She attended Pomona High School, graduating in 1950 as valedictorian. The value of education was always one of Ann's core values. Immediately after high school, Ann went to work for Citizens State Bank of Pomona until 1957. September 18, 1954, Ann married Jack Shepheard in Lyndon, Kan. They lived in Quenemo before buying their farm on Colorado Road, Pomona, in 1956. Ann had four children, Jacquelyn (Jackie) Ann, Sheila Gail, Stephen (Steve) Clark and Nancy Elaine. During the time of raising her children, Ann participated in the Williamsburg Extension Homemaker's Unit, taught vacation bible school at Williamsburg Free Methodist Church, and served as a Community Leader for the Far and Near 4-H Club of Williamsburg. When all the children were in school, Ann returned to work as the secretary of Williamsburg Schools, USD 287. She retired in 1998 after 28 years with USD 287. After retirement, Ann worked for Franklin County Historical Society and Ottawa Antique Mall. During this time of her life, Ann enjoyed traveling. Never one to be idle, Ann also quilted over a dozen quilts and embroidered hundreds of tea towels during her retirement. Ann moved to Ottawa in 2003 after her divorce from Jack. She moved to Tecumseh, Kan., in 2017 to live with her daughter Nancy and her husband Frank. Ann passed away Monday December 25, 2023, at Ruble Ranch, Overbrook, Kan., at the age of 91 years.
