Alice M. Slater, 78, of Clare, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012. Alice was born Dec. 1, 1933, in Midland, the daughter of Thomas C. and Dorothy L. (Moyer) Burns. She was united in marriage to Ernest Slater on May 21, 1952. Alice met Ernie at a local dance and they spent 59 wonderful married years together. She worked at Bicknell Winter Attorneys for several years as office manager, as well as at The Dow Chemical Co., and the Clare Hospital. Before she became ill, she enjoyed traveling with Ernie, spending time raising her grandchildren and volunteering at the Clare Hospital. As her health became more of a challenge, she spent time playing cards, "surfing the web" and visiting with friends and family.
Alice is survived by her husband, Ernie; her children, Mark (Linda) Slater of Midland and Cathy "Cate" McGinn of Wheaton, Ill.; four grandchildren who will always love their "Nana Nanny," Kellin McGinn, Meryl McGinn, Christopher and Tyler Slater; as well as Alice's sister, Virginia Sutherland. Alice was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas L. Burns; and two grandchildren, Tommy McGinn and Sara Slater.
Services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at 11 a.m., at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home, with Pastor Dennis Bromley and Mr. Frank Good officiating. Visitation will be held today from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the MidMichigan Medical Center Hospital Volunteers. On-line guestbook at www.stephenson-wyman.com
